Oyo SDP Guber Candidate, Agboola, Party Chair, Task Candidates on Unity, Electoral Victory

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Mogaji Olusegun Agboola, has urged candidates contesting various elective positions on the party’s platform not to yield to pressure to withdraw from the 2027 elections in favour of candidates from other political parties.
Agboola made the plea on Thursday during a meeting with SDP candidates at the party’s secretariat in Aree, Ibadan, where he urged them to remain resolute in their political ambitions and work collectively to secure electoral victory for the party.

The meeting, chaired by the state chairman, Hon. Michael Okunlola, brought together the party’s governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly candidates to discuss strategies to strengthen the party’s structures and coordinate their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Agboola charged the candidates to approach the forthcoming elections with determination and confidence, stressing that their individual ambitions were part of a collective effort to reposition the SDP as a credible political alternative in Oyo State.
He said the party must break away from the perception that its candidates routinely withdraw from electoral contests at the last minute, urging them to demonstrate their commitment by sustaining their campaigns and engaging voters across their respective constituencies.

According to him, the SDP must move beyond merely participating in elections to building a formidable political structure capable of mobilising grassroots support and translating its presence across the state into electoral success.

He also called for unity, cooperation and effective coordination among the candidates, noting that a collective approach would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.
Agboola urged the candidates not to entertain expectations of stepping down for candidates of other political parties, but to remain focused on their respective contests and work towards achieving their electoral objectives.
In his remarks, Okunlola commended the candidates for their commitment and resilience, urging them to intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement ahead of the elections.
The state chairman assured the candidates of the party’s support, declaring that the SDP would not allow any of them to be pressured into abandoning their ambitions in favour of candidates representing other political interests.
He further urged the candidates to maintain unity and sustain their mobilisation efforts as the party works towards strengthening its presence and improving its electoral fortunes across Oyo State in 2027.
