Oyo Health Commissioner Charges NTD Coordinators on Service Delivery
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, has charged the Coordinators of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in the State on proper service delivery so as to achieve the ultimate goal of eliminating NTDs in Oyo State.
Dr. Ajetunmobi gave this charge during a meeting with the NTD Coordinators across the 33 LGAs of the State. She maintained that the State is doing its best with support from Partners to ensure that NTDs are completely eliminated in Oyo State.
She therefore charged them to see their services as a call to serve the State in order to contribute their own quota to the success story. She urged them to align with the recent change in leadership position of the State NTD Coordinator, adding that they were following the directives from the Federal Ministry of Health.
She said,
“We are guided by a recent directive from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), which emphasizes the importance of central coordination for all public health programs. This directive underscores the need for a unified approach, ensuring that our interventions are consistent, well-coordinated, and based on the latest public health guidelines and best practices.”
She appreciated the contribution of the former State Coordinator for his service and dedication and also charged the new State Coordinator to build on the successes recorded and confront the challenges met on the ground headlong.
She further said,
“To the former State Coordinator, I extend my deepest gratitude for your service and dedication. You have contributed your own quota, and we appreciate it. To the new State Coordinator, welcome to your role. Your leadership and vision will be crucial as we continue to build on our successes and address the challenges ahead.”
The Commissioner noted that while some of their challenges are being addressed, there’s also the need to address some key priorities, which include;
* Clear communication and information sharing for successful coordination
* Standardizing procedures and protocols
* Capacity building and training for a competent workforce
* Community engagement strategies to build on success.
The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr. Akintunde Ayinde, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the NTD Coordinators. He appreciated their efforts and charged them to be free to communicate their challenges on the field to management. He assured that the highlighted challenges would be addressed to record more success stories in eliminating NTDs in Oyo State.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, expressed his happiness at the invitation to the meeting and applauded the Commissioner for her exemplary leadership. The PS further said it was his first time attending this meeting and appreciated the State NTDs coordinator’s invitation. He said,” This meeting will further cement our collaboration and engagement with the Ministry of Health; we will ensure the cooperation of teachers in any of your intervention programmes in order to eliminate NTDs in Oyo State jointly”.
In the same trajectory, the Director of Public Health, Dr. Babatunde Akintunde, expressly commended the Commissioner for creating time out of her very tight schedule to listen to the NTDs field officers with a view to having undiluted and real-time information about NTDs in their respective LGAs. The DPH further said that in her Honour’s usual leadership response, this would be the third engagement with the health workers at the grassroot level. In his words, “This is not the first time the Commissioner would be having physical engagements with the LGA programme Officers; her Honour has had meetings with the DSNOs and TBLSs. This is commendable and unprecedented”. Dr. Ebunoluwa Adeoye, the State NTD Coordinator, appreciated the excellent work of the Commissioner and the LNTD Coordinators. WHO and Living World Mission delivered goodwill messages and pledged their support to the Ministry of Health in her coordination efforts.
The Director of Nursing Services, Dr. Oyebode, the Director of Tertiary Health, Dr. Fasasi, and the Director of Food, Water, and Laboratory Services, Mrs. Akande, were also present at the meeting
