The Onilua of Ilualand in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, HRM Oba Ashiru Oyebisi Olalere, has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently reconstruct the Okeho–Ilua–Awaye road, describing its current state as a major setback to economic growth in the community.

The monarch made the appeal on Saturday, May 2, while personally participating in a community-led effort to patch failed portions of the 25-kilometre road alongside local youths. He lamented that the road, which has remained in a deplorable condition for years, has significantly hindered movement and disrupted commercial activities across Ilualand and adjoining communities.

According to Oba Olalere, the road was once a vital transport corridor linking several towns in the Oke-Ogun axis, including Kishi, Igboho, Saki, Ago-Are and Otu. He noted that commercial drivers previously preferred the route due to its convenience, thereby boosting trade and economic interactions within the region.

He, however, expressed concern that the deteriorating condition of the road has discouraged motorists particularly commercial operators from using it, resulting in reduced business activities and hardship for residents whose livelihoods depend on trade and transportation.

The traditional ruler urged Governor Makinde to show compassion and expedite action toward reconstructing the road, emphasizing that its rehabilitation would restore economic vibrancy and improve the standard of living for the people.

Oba Olalere also called on lawmakers representing Kajola and Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituencies, Hon. Musbau Azeez and Hon. Dele Adeola, to prioritise the issue and lend their voices in advocating for urgent government intervention.

While making his appeal, the monarch expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, and the Executive Chairman of Kajola Local Government, Hon. Akeem Olawale Mustapha, for their roles in facilitating his ascension to the throne.

He further acknowledged past administrations for their contributions to the construction of the road, specifically mentioning former governors including the current Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the late Alhaji Lam Adesina, and the late Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala. He noted that their efforts had previously enhanced development within the community.

Oba Olalere concluded by commending the youths, traditional council chiefs and residents of Ilualand for their continued support and collective efforts toward community development, while offering prayers for sustained progress and unity.
