..……. Stakeholders’ meeting Skewed, A Charade, Aspirant Says

Some leaders of the People’s, Democratic Party in the Ido local government area of Oyo state have denied endorsing Hon. Sheriff Adeojo as a candidate for the forthcoming local government election.

Some of the party leaders in Ido local government who spoke with Westernsailynews.com correspondent, Akindele Alabi said that they had chosen to remain neutral till the most qualified candidate is sourced

The leaders’ reactions are a sequel to reports that had been making the rounds on the internet that they have endorsed the current council chairman, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo as the candidate to contest the local government chairmanship election come 2024 under PDP.

A PDP leader from Ido local government said, all the aspirants still have equal chances and the information that, the present Ido council chairman has been unanimously picked to return to the seat for a second term is fake, urging the general public to disregard such information.

” I don’t know where the fake information came from, no one among the local government chairmanship aspirants has been endorsed by the party leaders. All we did at the meeting today ( yesterday ) was brainstormed about the coming council election and some party activities, some of the party leaders were present, including the aspirants and all that we discussed is general, not on the selection of a candidate.

” Let me state categorically that these claims that we leaders in Ido local government PDP had chosen one aspirant for chairmanship ticket are false, baseless, mischievous, unfounded, it is a handwork of a desperate aspirant, supported by some self-centered political individuals.

‘ Governor Seyi Makinde gave us a directive and it is what we leaders will follow, no aspirant will stand on us to impose himself, or any leader or leaders will tell the majority to handpick an incompetent aspirant as a candidate, such an era has gone in our local government,”

Also speaking, one of the party leaders from Ido local government who craved anonymity said, endorsing the local government chairman, Hon. Sheriff Ido, was out of discussion during their meeting on Monday, said, he was also surprised how the fake news about the endorsement managed to get to the internet.

“We indeed went for a leader’s meeting today ( yesterday ) and from the script, some leaders acted, it showed that they want to drag the name and integrity of our party in Ido local government into their charade to save the face of a particular cascading aspirant.

Let me tell you, no aspirant was picked as the sole candidate yet, all we did today is just a meeting and nothing more, the picture they are sharing on the internet as evidence of adoption has contrary meaning. The picture was captured when we were singing the party anthem that all”.

Also, one of the PDP leading aspirants for the chairmanship ticket in the Ido local government Hon. Bamidele Lawal ‘ Bambam’ who is also the secretary of the party at the local government described the stakeholders meeting where Hon. Adeojo was said to have been picked as a candidate to represent Ido PDP for the forthcoming local government election as child-play, dismissed the exercise as skewed, biased, prejudiced, and a charade.

Bambam urged the party leaders, members, and his loyalists to ignore the news story, saying, it was just a tactic from a particular aspirant to manipulate the process, thereafter confirming that he is still much in the race for the chairmanship ticket.

While speaking with our correspondent,
Bambam said he was at the purported meeting but was not aligned with the decision to adopt Hon. Sherrif Adeojo for the ticket, so also part leaders were present.

“The purpose of the meeting was to settle differences among the groups within PDP in Ido of which only a few members turned out for the meeting.

“You can imagine stakeholders meeting in which the party chairman is not around, the assembly lawmaker, Hon Rasaq Mabaje is not on the seat, and other notable leaders, so how is it possible anyone is endorsed?

“Endorsement of any aspirant was never discussed. I was baffled when notable people in our council started calling to challenge me on why I dropped my ambition for another aspirant.

“I am in the race for the chairmanship seat of our local government because of my strength of character, capacity, and competence. My intentions are clear and explicit for the public good rather than self-interest

In her reaction, Alhaja Kafilat Olayiwola ” Aje Iya ” immediate past state Commissioner for Women Affairs also distance herself from the
alleged endorsement of the local government chairman for the coming council election.

Aje Iya said she was at the stakeholder’s meeting but not attended to endorse a candidate. She said, those leaders that claimed to have endorsed Adeojo did it on their own for selfish interest, explained that the PDP in Ido local government will only adopt the template given by the governor to arrive at picking the most qualified candidate to represent the party at the poll.

On his side, Baba Adeoye from Ward 7 of the local government affirmed to be part of the people who endorsed Hon. Adeojo for a second term. Baba Adeoye said, thou, not all the leaders present at the meeting agreed with the decision but some of the leaders present support the motion that Adeojo should be returned for a second term.

All efforts to reach Ido state constituency lawmaker, Hon. Rasaq Mabaje were unsuccessful as he did not pick up phone calls and not responding to WhatsApp messages.
