Kamorudeen Joins NEMA, SEMA To Educate Grassroots On Flood Disaster, Control

 

Lagelu Chairman, Hon. Kamorudeen Solidarize NEMA, SEMA for Early Action Against Flooding Disaster in Grassroots

The Executive Chairman of Lagelu local government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen on Thursday attended a special program by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in partnership with Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the three local government areas, Lagelu, Egbeda and Ona-Ara— in advocacy for early actions and preparedness against flooding disaster that oftentimes impacts local communities.

The event which held at NUT hall, Aba-Emu in Ona-Ara local government on Thursday, had in attendance, representatives of National Emergency Management Agency, the State Emergency Management Agency, Traditional Rulers, Community Stakeholders, and the Executive Chairmen and principal officers of the three local government areas of Ona-Ara, Lagelu, and Egbeda.

The program aimed to provide critical insights into efforts for future preparedness strategies against flooding disaster in grassroots.

In his remarks at the event, the executive chairman of Lagelu local government, Mr. Kamorudeen said flooding is one of the most impactful, and challenging emergencies to prepare for, and respond to. He emphasized on how flooding can cause millions of nairas in damage to local communities anywhere and everywhere

Given the severity of flooding disasters from past years, and its widespread effects on local communities and households, the council chairman recognized the importance of collective action and comprehensive response measures between and among government agencies at all levels. He therefore called for synergy between the different levels of government in the nation- on the crucial need of protecting the physical environment, and preparing constituents to react appropriately to flooding events everywhere and anywhere within localities.

The chairman, further in his remarks, outlined his administration’s commitment to taking flood-resilience plans and advocacies to areas and communities in his local government.
