A Chieftain in Oyo All Progressives Congress, Barrister Adebayo Shittu has said his party in the state has many qualified and experienced political leaders, so it will be difficult to centred leadership control on one person.

Shittu, the former communications minister, opined that, to reinstall peace in the party, the party need a collegiate leadership system.

The Oke-Ogun born politician on radio, at Splash FM, Ibadan last Saturday said with the ongoing
reconciliation of aggrieved group and individuals in the All Progressives Congress in Oyo state, all have decided to bury their grievances and work for the success of the party.

When asked if he is ready to align with former governor Alao Akala as the party leader in the state, Shittu explained that, saddling the party leadership on single hand is needless, as what the party now is a collegiate leadership system.

“Without doubt, Akala is an elder and he has served as a governor. And even me as a small boy, I have been a politician for several years and I have been a minister too.

“When we had only one leader we discovered that it is not advantageous, so what we now want is a collegiate leadership something like a committee of elders,” Shittu said, adding that “We respect Akala all but we will have many leaders. A leader is not something important. There will be elders.”

He said collegiate leadership concept is not mutually exclusive to personal or individual responsibility. As highest premium is placed on individual responsibility as part of the Collective for the success of the group. The Individual is expected to play his or her own role effectively, efficiently and manifest unequalled loyalty for the success of the Collective.

When we had only one leader we discovered that it is not advantageous So what we now want is a collegiate leadership something like a committee of elders,” Shittu said, adding that “We respect Akala all but we will have many leaders. A leader is not something important. There will be elders.”

Speaking on the progress been made by the reconciliation committee and those who left and yet to joined the restructuring, Shittu said APC is a party for all, as there is no need to drag anyone to rejoin by force.

” You can’t beg anyone to join any party. Anyone who leaves can’t be forced back because we were not the one who sent them away. But you will see that some who were not with us before are now with us.

Bar. Shittu, the CPC governorship candidate and 2015 ACN, 2019 APC governorship aspirant has never ruled out been Oyo state governor, as he said he never know, If he still want to be Governor.

” No one knows what will happen yet. If I say I want to be governor I might end up becoming president or senator. So only God knows. But for now I am yet to make a decision. No one retires from politics except if the person is incompetent. For now, I am yet to make a decision but God will guide us.” Barrister Adebayo Shittu stated.
