Ido Youths Hail Chairman Adeojo For Promoting Unity Through Grassroots Football Conpetitions

Youths across Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State have commended the Executive Chairman, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, for his efforts in fostering love, unity, and peaceful coexistence among young people through sports, following the successful conclusion of the “Ido Le Tente Football Competition“Ido Le Tente Football Competition.”

The community-driven tournament, which featured players from all 10 wards in the local government, climaxed on Sunday evening with a dramatic final match between Ward 9 and Ward 10 at the Ido High School field.

The opening kick of the first half was performed by the Auditor of the Oyo State PDP, Alhaji Ayuba Akinsola, at about 4:45 p.m., with the half ending goalless at 5:15 p.m. The second half resumed under the supervision of Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo at 5:30 p.m., but neither side managed to find the back of the net, leading to a penalty shootout that ended in a rare 13–13 tie. Both teams were subsequently declared joint winners.

While presenting cash prizes and gold medals to the finalists, Hon. Adeojo commended the players for their sportsmanship, unity, and maturity throughout the tournament. He noted that the essence of the competition was not only to discover sporting talents but also to strengthen the bond among youths in Ido.

> “This competition is about love, family, and unity. I am proud of the spirit you all displayed. Let us continue to live together as one big family — especially within our PDP family. There is no place like home, and we can only build it together through peace and cooperation,” he said.

In his vote of thanks, the Supervisory Councillor for Youth and Sports, Otunba Oladimeji Fakayode, lauded the Executive Chairman for his visionary leadership and timely financial support that ensured the success of the competition. He also appreciated party leaders, stakeholders, and residents for their collective efforts.

> “This success belongs to everyone. The Chairman’s commitment and our people’s support made it possible. Ido Le Tente has shown that sports can unite and inspire communities,” Otunba Fakayode added.

 

The grand finale was graced by several dignitaries, including the Ido PDP Chairman, Hon. Musibau Emiola; Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Adedeji Adebowale; Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Hon. Lukman Olabimiji; other councillors, supervisory councillors, special assistants, and top local government officials.

Also in attendance were the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Aminu Sarafadeen, directors, NULGE executives, traditional representatives such as Oloye Muyideen Adetola (Ekarun Onido) and the Iyalode of Ido Land, Alhaja Amudalat, as well as security operatives, civil servants, and hundreds of enthusiastic youths.

The “Ido Le Tente Football Competition” has been widely described as a groundbreaking initiative and the first of its kind in the local government’s grassroots sports history — a platform that not only celebrated youthful energy but also deepened community ties and political unity under Hon. Adeojo’s administration.
