Ìbàdàn Stampede: Oyo Widows Mourn Deceased Children, Plead For Oriyomi, Ex-queen Naomi’s Release

The Oyo state chapter of the Wazobia Widows Welfare Association has joined other Nigerians to mourn the children, who were recently stampeded at a funfair in Ìbàdàn, the Oyo state capital, expressing sadness over the incidence.

Addressing the newsmen today, at a peaceful rally held within the premises of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo state, the group Coordinator, Alhaja Binta Adejoke, who sympathized with families of the deceased children, stated that the organizers of the event, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Naomi Silekunola and the Proprietor of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, meant well for the less privileged in the society, before the ugly incident occurred.

Alhaja Adejoke however appealed to the government to consider calls by different groups and order their release from Agodi correctional centre, where they are being remanded.

She also prayed that God Almighty console the families of the deceased children and grant those in the hospital quick recovery, urging the general public to always abide by the rules set by organizers of events, to avoid recurrence of such incident in the future.

“We are appealing for the release of our people, Please forgive them, and those that this thing happened to, God Almighty will surely console their hearts. Please we are appealing, release our people, Oriyomi Hamzat and others” she stated.

Also speaking, the state Secretary of the Association, Mrs. Akinwumi Oluwayemisi blamed the incident on the present economic situation in the country, which she noted was as a result of the government’s failure to provide basic needs for the people, charging organizers of children parties to always put necessary measures in place to prevent avoidable disaster that may escalate into a serious tragedy.
