How OYSAA Ruined My Business – Ibadan Business Owner Laments, Seeks Gov. Makinde’s Intervention
An Advertising and Branding Company in Ibadan Oyo State registered with CAC as Glaracom Concepts Limited has cried out for help to Governor Seyi Makinde and the general public on the illegal activities carried out by Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA).
It was learnt that Glaracom Concept Limited is duly registered with OYSAA and pays its annual agency fees to OYSAA.
“On 20th July 2022, I was called by my staff that our advertising billboards at Alaro Bus-stop Eleyele Ibadan and Alaro Bus-Stop, Opp. Nipco Behind Poly Gate, Poly Road, Ibadan respectively had been pulled down and taken away by B Plan, a consultant of the agency.” the CEO of the firm said.
Reaching out to the OYSAA by the company’s lawyers, the agency confirmed that the activities were performed by them through a so-named consultant and the agency couldn’t assure the return of the properties.
The business owner who said the two billboards are worth over four million Naira (#4m) however is reaching out to the state governor Engineer Seyi Makinde and the agency to return all the billboards pulled down and carted away by the agency, as the activities carried out are illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional and which has bankrupted her business.
“I started the business to bring development to the state and support the community where I come from, Ibadan, Oyo State but the state government and its agencies are bankrupting my business with illegal violation of my company’s rights and licensing fees. She said through her company, she has been able to employ jobless graduates and others who work for her company.
The business owner said her lawyers wrote the agency and have held many meetings with them without success. One of the lawyers confirmed that they truly contacted the agency but OYSAA said the billboards could not be found again as they don’t have records of where they keep the boards after removal. The lawyers and owner of the business are currently considering legal options because the OYSAA law does not expressly stipulate that billboards should be removed illegally and taken away without practitioners being notified. “Our client was not even given adequate notice. OYSAA didn’t do it’s due diligence because as at the time the billboards were taken away, our client was not aware of any debt owed the Agency or any notice whatsoever. Efforts to get the two (2) billboards have not been successful. This does not encourage investment in the state as our client has brought her professional expertise back home from abroad where she is based to create job and contribute to the economic development of Oyo State” the lawyer said.
The Glaracom Concepts Limited’s lawyer, Taiwo Odumosu of the Alpha Law Firm expressed the fear of his client not getting those locations again as insinuations were rife that the locations might be given to the cronies of the agency.
The business owner has appealed to the Oyo State government to intervene in the matter. The business owner said: “I humbly request the state governor Engr Seyi Makinde in his goodwill to call everyone involved in these illegal activities to order, and return my company properties”, she added.
