When we were younger, our parents used to tell us the story of a particular Sanitation officer, ( Wole-wole), named Ajuwon.

Ajuwon was stationed in the old Ibarapa Local Government.

Ibarapa Local Government at the time, comprised of the seven towns and villages of Ibarapa Land.

Ajuwon, according to the story, was a mid-level Sanitation officer but he was very very tough and cruel.

We were told that he was never reluctant to carry out the stiff but illegal punishments for offenders as directed by his seniors.

Such punishments, sometimes involved slapping of offenders!

Unfortunately for Ajuwon, as we were told, nemesis caught up with him and he became insane and the words that never left his mouth as he roamed the streets were, ” Ajuwon gbaa leti, Ajuwon, jii laya, be se se Ajuwon le se Ajuwon yi o”. ( Ajuwon slap him, Ajuwon kick him, you have turned Ajuwon to a sad spectacle).

Any time our parents felt we were overdoing things, most especially, in other to please a higher authority, they told us the story of Ajuwon.

This morning, I am compelled to tell the tale of Ajuwon to no other person than the Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin.

I deliberately chose the tale of Ajuwon, because, just like me, Debo Ogundoyin is also from Eruwa in Ibarapa East Local Government.

Although, unlike me, Debo Ogundoyin might not have heard the tale until now but I’m sure, if he is desirous of verifying my tale, he is not bereft of people who could explain to him.

He has a good number of people who have congregated themselves to form a self serving Elders Council in Eruwa, they should be able to drive my points home and break down my concerns if they can be honest with him.

Why would I want to tell Debo some stories that took place many years before he was conceived?

Wait. I will tell you.

Yesterday, Monday, 15th of September, 2025, I read the alarm raised by Oyo APC concerning an alleged plans of victimization of Hon. Shittu Ibrahim from Saki West by the PDP.

Hon. Shittu Ibrahim is the Legislator who blew the whistle on the controversial 300b Naira Loan purportedly approved by the Oyo state House of Assembly between the 16th and 26th of August, 2025.

Oyo APC alleged that the PDP and I want to believe, Oyo state Government, are planning to hire thugs who will harass Hon. Shittu Ibrahim when he resumes for plenary today, 16th September, 2025.

They alleged further that Hon. Shittu Ibrahim will also be made to face a Kangaroo Panel of the Oyo state House of Assembly and will eventually be suspended indefinitely.

I have also read the response of the Oyo state House of Assembly to the statements by Oyo APC through Hon. Waheed Akintayo, the House Committee Chairman on Information.

The only paragraph that attracted my attention is where he said and I quote, ” it is our duty to provide accurate context and facts and to set the records straight. As a responsible Legislative Institution with a consistent track records of peaceful and orderly conduct since 2019, we found it laughable that the Oyo APC would descend to such depths of desperation..”.

I have deliberately couch out this particular paragraph because I love to deal with people from their assertions.

I am surprised that Waheed Akintayo have suddenly found his voice.

I am much more surprised to see that he is still the House Committee Chairman of Oyo state House of Assembly on Information.

I thought he has resigned from that position and that the Oyo state House of Assembly have not found a replacement.

Where was he all these while when issues and questions are being directed at the House of Assembly concerning more controversies surrounding the series of loans approved by the Oyo state House of Assembly which he described as being ‘ a responsible Legislative Institution’ but which have gone silent in the face of attacks from the public over Governor Makinde’s reckless borrowings?

I am sure he is aware of the fresh issues raised by Hon. Shittu Ibrahim during an interview he granted to a Radio station in Ibadan here.

Anyway, now that Waheed Akintayo have found his voice and is in the mood for setting the records straight, let me ask him to provide answers to the following issues raised by Hon Shittu Ibrahim, to which he and his colleagues have pretended not to hear.

There have been so much back and forth about whether the Oyo state House of Assembly plenary of August 16, 2025 was properly constituted or not, in the absence of a valid notice of plenary but Hon. Shittu threw another banger which Akintayo and others have ignored until now.

Where is the notice for the purported plenary of August 26, 2025?

Hon. Shittu Ibrahim also raised serious issues about a particular 200b Naira Loan which was purportedly approved for Governor Makinde on 13th May, 2025.

He said he got to know about the said approval through the votes and proceedings of what was supposed to be a previous sitting that never took place and that he made his concerns known to the Majority Leader of the Oyo state House of Assembly who provided him with no convincing explanations.

Will Waheed Akintayo address this issue and show us that Hon. Shittu Ibrahim is not saying the truth?

Hon. Shittu Ibrahim also raised serious concerns about a particular loan of about 72 million dollars purportedly taken from Afribank.

Will Akintayo provide us explanations about it?

Not only that, Hon. Shittu alleged that loans were being approved for the state Government without due process and he was specific by saying that the requests from the Governor, in many instances, did not have attachments.

I challenge Waheed Akintayo to provide the public with detailed figures of the loans approved by the ‘ responsible ‘ Oyo state House of Assembly since 2019.

I also dare him to publish the total figures as at today, the votes and proceedings of the plenaries where the loans were considered, the reports of the House Committee which considered the requests and gave the go for the House of Assembly to approve, the reports of the Oyo state House of Assembly on oversights on the attached projects and the attendance register of the Oyo state House of Assembly since 2019.

The above quoted documents and information are not classified and they are public documents and are not restricted information or, are they?

Now that the Oyo state House of Assembly are in the mood for setting records straight, the above questions are begging for answers and we hope to hear from Hon. Waheed Akintayo.

If he could not provide answers to the issues raised above, then I think his reference to the current Oyo state House of Assembly as a ‘ responsible ‘ Legislative Institution’ would be debatable.

Having said that, let me go back to Debo Ogundoyin.

Any time I hear people refer to the current Oyo state House of Assembly as a rubber stamp, being manipulated by Governor Makinde, I used to shudder.

If I will be honest with myself, I have never seen an Oyo state House of Assembly as tamed as the present one headed by Debo Ogundoyin.

I am surprised that Waheed Akintayo said that the present House of Assembly is a ‘responsible Legislative Institution’.

They might be responsible but to who?

To Governor Makinde or the citizens of Oyo state?

The worrying part with regards to the Speaker is the fact that his Constituency, Ibarapa East have benefited practically nothing tangible from the Government of Seyi Makinde since 2019.

I thought they said that to whom much is given, much more should be expected? Isn’t it?

Despite the fact that Debo Ogundoyin has made himself available to be overused by the Governor, his Constituency has benefited nothing significant from the Government of Seyi Makinde like I said earlier.

Unfortunately, time is running out fast.

The only achievements I can easily point at as being the benefit of Governor Seyi Makinde and Debo Ogundoyin in Ibarapa East is the installation of Samuel Adebayo Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwa in violation of the judgment of the Supreme court of Nigeria and perhaps, the displacement of thousands of farmers from the Eruwa Farm Settlement in the name of a controversial handing over of the 4,000 hectares Eruwa Farm Settlement to some unknown entities.

Currently, almost a billion Naira was purportedly approved by Governor Makinde for the rehabilitation of the Eleruwa Palace and it is being alleged that Debo Ogundoyin collected the contract through a proxy.

Will those be the legacies of Debo in Eruwa?

Just recently, the Oyo state Executive Council approved funds for projects in Ibarapa East.

I wonder whatever happened to the initial approvals but it was said that funds have been approved for the Isaba- Ogundoyin Road.

The said road has been contracted, allegedly, to a sibling of the Oyo Speaker since around 2020 and stood as an abandoned project as at two weeks ago when we read about another approval by the Oyo state Executive Council.

The Oyo state Executive Council also approved funds for another project controversially described as ‘Lanlate Garage Junction- Local Government Junction- Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic -Oke-Ola Junction Road, Eruwa'(1.9klm).

I have asked the Oyo state Executive Council to clarify the description of the project above but no one has responded.

I am asking Debo Ogundoyin to assist the Government by providing the clarifications because I do not know of a road so described as the above in Ibarapa East and I hope the incongruous manner the project was defined is not a deliberate act to perpetuate fraud.

Anyway, I will be on that issue and I will ensure that nothing is hidden from the public.

I have seen people joked about the fact that despite the fact that Debo Ogundoyin is the one presiding over the plenaries of the Oyo state House of Assembly where loans estimated at over a trillion Naira were approved for Governor Makinde, his Constituency, Ibarapa East only attracted projects worth #4, 146,068,573.56.

I told such people that my concerns are different and deeper.

One, I am concerned about the identity of the Contractor and whether the projects would not be abandoned as usual because, the initial ones allegedly awarded to the sibling of the Speaker were abandoned.

Secondly, I’m worried about the contract sums.

Over 4b Naira for just about 2klm road within the town?

That is unbelievably outrageous and I definitely will monitor the contractor and the projects.

As we speak, the Ido/Eruwa road of just 48klm has been abandoned yet again.

Despite the fact that Governor Makinde made yet, another promise to complete the road within 11 months during the jamboree organized for the coronation of Adegbola, no contractor is on site since that promise was made.

Interestingly, Debo Ogundoyin presided over the plenaries of the Oyo state House of Assembly where funds were approved for the budget to finance several road projects which were approved by the Oyo state Executive Council years after approval was given for the Ido/Eruwa project.

When I read the story by Oyo APC and Waheed Akintayo’s response, I had the urge to warn the Oyo state House of Assembly Speaker.

Hon. Shittu’s case will be another challenge for him.

Despite Waheed Akintayo’s denials, Governor Seyi Makinde will definitely want a pound of flesh from the Saki born Legislator.

My simple advice for Debo Ogundoyin is to be cautious.

Shittu’s case will be very slippery and I won’t say more than that for now.

I do not expect Debo Ogundoyin to take my advice and like our people used to say, I don’t pray that people take my advice so that when the consequences come, I will say that I said so.

Those who are pushing and using the Speaker for their selfish reasons will be the first to condemn him when nemesis come calling.

Most especially, from the home front.

I expect Debo to have known by now that Governor Seyi Makinde is a player who is merely concerned about his personal ambitions and he will do anything to get what he wants even if it means sacrificing the interests of others.

Makinde has less than two years to spend in office as Governor of Oyo state and I wonder if Debo Ogundoyin has ever wondered if he would be needed by the Governor beyond 2027.

I know that he’s been dreaming about a purported succession plan which favours him.

I can say it without any iota of doubt that such dreams are just a mirage but if the young man wants to continue living in denials, that is not my problem.

For now, I think Debo Ogundoyin should be more concerned about the legacies he intends to leave behind as a two time Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly.

The late Chief Davidson Mokolade Gbolagunte, a son of Eruwa like himself was Speaker for just four years.

To his credit and beautiful memories, he facilitated the establishment of the Institution now known as the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa.

I am sure that the Speaker is aware that the Institution was not so named at inception which means that the name could change at any time in the future.

I will not say more than that for now.

Like I said, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim’s case will be slippery and I hope Debo Ogundoyin will be cautious about the way he takes instructions from their master.

” Ajuwon gbaa leti, Ajuwon jii laya,” the ” Ajuwon” of the Oyo state House of Assembly Speaker must be weary of nemesis.

A word they say, should be enough for the wise.
