Fatai Buhari 6 Others Listed By Senate To Probe Alleged Fraud At NDDC
The Nigeria Senate today inaugurated Distinguished Senator Buhari Abdulfatai as southwest representative in its newly constituted 7-man integrity committee charged to investigate the alleged financial recklessness in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, relating but not limited to the alleged misapplication and misappropriation of the 40 billion naira.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, when inaugurating the committee today noted that ”the committee is made up of experienced and senators of high integrity across the 6 geopolitical zones simply because Niger Delta Development Commission is a pioneer zonal development commission so it must operate as a good example for other zonal development commission established after it.”
The chairman of the committee, Senator Olubunmi Adetunbi, in his remarks thanked the senate leadership for finding them worthy of the assignment and also stated that though the allegations in the motion are weighty but the committee will afford the parties involved enough fair hearing and base their findings on evidence present before them.
The constituted committee is part of the prayers contained in the motion sponsored by a senator from Niger Delta representing Rivers East, George Sekibo, who apart from calling for investigation of the financial recklessness in the Niger Delta Development Commission also urged the Senate to investigate the appropriateness or otherwise of the arbitrary sack of the staff and management of the commission.
Other members of the committee are: Senator Tanko Almakura from North Central (Nasarrawa South), Senator Hassan Hadejia from North West (Jigawa North), Senator Dauda Jika from North East (Bauchi Central), Senator Barinada Mpigi from SouthSouth (Rivers South), Chukwuka Utazi from South East (Enugu North).
