EDDY OLAFESO; A Leader Per Excellence | Femi Olaitan Hero

“A good leader can engage in a debate frankly and thoroughly, knowing that at the end he and the other side must be closer, and thus emerge stronger. You don’t have that idea when you are arrogant, superficial, and uninformed.” Nelson Mandela

Many people have argued over the years that leaders are made while others opine that leaders are born. The man, Eddy Olafeso, is a man of integrity with a sound mind and leadership acumen.

He started his leadership role while an undergraduate at the great citadel of learning, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he bagged his First Class Honours in English Language and then his masters in the same institution before he proceeded to USA for his Ph.D in International Relations.

History has it that Eddy Olafeso was a lover of peace and an emblem of humility while pursuing his studies in Ife. This earned him a lot of respect and honour among his counterparts. He extended this to the society and got him more accolades from men and women.

Dr. Olafeso is a grassroot politician who understands what leadership and administration entails. He has held various political offices from Local Government to the State and National levels.

Eddy Olafeso has been instrumental to the success story of many people today in PDP as God used him in one way or the other to make them achieve their aims both politically and academically.

Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan recently gave a hint to Dr. Eddy Olafeso’s personality in an interview he granted. Olopoeyan noted that ‘Eddy Olafeso is a man of humility who has respect for everyone that comes across him and would never betray whatever agreement reached with him. Eddy was very helpful and instrumental to the primary election that produced the incumbent Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde. How could I betray a man whom we had a gentle man agreement with before the PDP Governorship Primary Election in Ondo state that produced, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede? It was resolved between us, Gov. Seyi Makinde inclusive that Eddy Olafeso would be returned if he did not emerge the governorship candidate which was politically calculated and permutated.

I am a man of my words and I keep to agreement no matter what comes, said Alhaji Olopoeyan. Alhaji AbdulRasheed Adebisi Olopoeyan, the PDP chieftain in Oyo State also noted that he would not betray the gentle man agreement made not even for his own biological brother should in case he comes out against Dr. Eddy Olafeso.

It is not strange or surprising seeing many bigwigs in PDP across the South West supporting Eddy Olafeso as he is considered being tested and trusted.

Olafeso is hoping to be returned to his immediate past office anytime election holds as the Southwest PDP Zonal Chairman with his secretary, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo. It is empirically clear that they have what it takes to hold the position again having performed excellently well in their first tenure. We hope to have a strong party in the southwest but that cannot be achieved without a sound leadership of the zonal executives. Majority of the party faithful are clamoring for him because they wouldn’t allow the party handed over to anyone who just returned to the party.

They affirmed that Ambassador Arapaja is not a consistent personality as he has history of jumping political parties here and there. He has defected to at least four different political parties before returning to PDP late last year 2020 in Oyo State after the party had won.

Southwest PDP doent need a man who lacks ideology and principles at this crucial time we are working towards winning the presidential election in the country. Arapaja never believed PDP could win 2019 election in Oyo State as he said a lot derogatory words to our great party and then governorship candidate in person of Governor Seyi Makinde.

He belittled our candidate that he had no political experience neither was he fit for the number one citizen position for the pace setter state. Though, he has apologized and publicly declared that Gov. Seyi Makinde is his leader and father.

While some consider it as a political statement, others see it as a frustrated statement to win Gov Makinde’s heart. Could it be a statement from the heart that he is a political son to Gov Makinde having served as a Local Government Chairman, Rep Member and Deputy Governor?

You would recall that Amb. Arapaja defected to PDP with the hope of picking senatorial ticket but jeopardized his ambition for the zonal chairmanship seat upon the call by Gov. Makinde who dropped his earlier candidate, Sen. Hosea Aboola. Gov. Makinde has been at the loggerheads with some political stakeholders in the state which could not be managed. This has affected the party at state level and by extension, southwest.

While wishing Dr. Eddy Olafeso success on the poll  as soon as the date is fixed by the National Working Committee, I hope peace and unity return to our party at all levels.

I write from Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
