Drug Abuse, Cultism Threaten Your Future, Akintayo Tells Students

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Ibrahim Akintayo (popularly known as O mu Yes), has advised secondary school students in the area to shun drug abuse and cultism, describing them as serious threats to their future.

 

The Chairman gave the charge while addressing students during an awareness campaign against cultism and other social vices held for secondary schools in the local government.

 

In his address, the guest speaker, Olufemi Micheal of the University of Ibadan, cautioned students against the use of intoxicants and drugs, stressing that such habits could ruin their academic and personal lives.

 

Students from several schools that participated in the programme, includes Community Grammar School Iwo Road, Holy Trinity Grammar School, Queen of Apostle Secondary School, and Christ The King School, among others.

 

Also, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs Omolara Aremu, urged students to remain disciplined and focused on their education, noting that good character and hard work are essential for success in life.

 

Similarly, the Director of Education and Social Services, Mrs Caroline Fatunmbi, encouraged the students to stay away from negative peer influence and criminal groups, emphasizing that excellence and integrity are key to greatness.

 

During an interactive session, the Chairman engaged the students with questions. One of the participants, Stephen Oderinde of Christ the King School, impressed the audience with his responses and was rewarded with a cash prize of ₦5,000.

In line with the state government’s efforts to curb crime, Dr. Micheal also charged the students to serve as ambassadors of good conduct by educating their peers on the dangers of drug abuse and cultism.

 

The programme ended with a renewed commitment by the local government to continue promoting moral values and positive youth development across schools in Ibadan North-East Local Government
