Democracy Day: Chair, Kamorudeen, Felicitates Nigerians, Applauds Makinde’s Democratic Dividends in Lagelu LG
In a heartfelt message marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen, extended warm felicitations to Nigerians, particularly the people of Lagelu, for their resilience in upholding the nation’s democratic ideals. In a statement released through his office on Thursday, the chairman lauded Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his unwavering commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the grassroots, especially in Lagelu Local Government.

The Democracy Day celebration, observed annually on June 12 to commemorate Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, holds profound significance as a reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists like Chief MKO Abiola. Hon. Kamorudeen, in his address, reflected on the essence of the day, urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in nurturing the nation’s democracy. “June 12 is not just a date; it is a symbol of our collective struggle for freedom, justice, and good governance. I salute the people of Lagelu and Nigerians at large for their unwavering commitment to these values,” he said.
The chairman reserved special praise for Governor Makinde, whose administration has been a beacon of progress in Oyo State. He highlighted the governor’s transformative initiatives that have directly impacted the Lagelu people, including infrastructural developments, improved access to education and healthcare, and timely salary payments for workers. “Governor Seyi Makinde has redefined governance by ensuring that the dividends of democracy flow freely to every corner of Oyo State, including Lagelu. His people-oriented policies have brought tangible development to our communities, from road rehabilitation to industrial revitalization,” Kamorudeen noted.
Kamorudeen also commended Makinde’s inclusive governance style, which has fostered unity across religious and traditional lines. He cited the governor’s engagement with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the League of Imams and Alfas, and traditional worshippers in Oyo as evidence of his fairness and dedication to harmony. “This is what true democracy looks like—leadership that listens, unites, and delivers,” the chairman remarked.
In his message, Hon. Kamorudeen called on the people of Lagelu to continue supporting the Makinde administration through prayers and active participation in governance. “Let us rally behind our governor to ensure that the gains of Omituntun 2.0 are sustained. Together, we can build a Lagelu that thrives on the principles of democracy—transparency, accountability, and progress,” he urged.

The chairman also used the occasion to reflect on the broader state of Nigeria’s democracy, acknowledging the progress made since 1999 while calling for greater citizen engagement to address ongoing challenges. “Our democracy is a work in progress. We must remain vigilant and committed to ensuring that the will of the people prevails,” he said.
