Some big wigs in the oyo state political sphere who are mostly young professionals from the All Progressives Congress, APC on Thursday attended the first edition of the Oyo State youth Summit.

At the summit Nigerian youths were charged to be more actively involved in the country’s political processes.

The political stalwarts at the summit included Senator representing Oyo North senatorial district, Fatai Buhari, All progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate in Oyo state, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, House of Representatives member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency ,Hon. Shina Peller.

Other notable politicians within the Oyo APC, are lawmaker representing Afijio state constituency in Oyo State House of Assembly Hon Seyi Adisa, APC National Youth Deputy Leader Hon. Afeez Bolaji Repete, Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina, former Federal Rep. members, former Oyo state commissioner for Finance and Budget, Bimbo Adekanmbi, Hon Femi Aribisala, Hon. Abisoye Faleye, Hon. Adekola Solalu, Hon Niyi Adeagbo, Hon Temitope Kolawole, Alhaji Olawale Sadare, Alao Adediran, Hon Femi Adeyemi, Hon Adesoji Adesokan, Hon Diran Ayobami Ajeigbe, Asiwaju Folawiyo and others.

The summit which was organised by like-minds youth in Oyo APC was aimed at enlightening young people on quality leadership, political participation and good governance.

In her Keynote address, Mrs Edem Dorothy Ossai who spoke on the theme of the summit tagged “Soro Soke generation” said the movement for change in the modern society has basic aims and objectives, which is to raise awareness about issues that might not yet be in the mainstream.

Mrs Ossai explained that the heart of every youth’s actions toward voicing out on the country”s inadequacies such as experience of inequality, deprivation, feelings of injustice, moral indignation about some state of affairs, said such actions must be evaluated to ensure it raise awareness and form public opinion.

In their separate opinions, The panelists urged youth to stop seeing themselves as tools for politicians in winning elections, but to show up abilities that expresses their views and interests to influence policies.

Senator Fatai Buhari admonished the youths to build on character, competence, courage, and to display their qualities to challenge the leaders in politically decision-making processes.

” I must commend the efforts of the conveners of this program, Oyo Youth Summit, this shows our youth now knows what is at stake, you can be at the corridor of your room and be making attempt to make changes, for your voice to be heard, you have to go out there and show your qualities and readiness. They olds are not ready to leave the stage, until you wrestle by showing them the quality in you” the lawmaker added.

An APC chieftain, Chief Bayo Adelabu argued that youth voice has a critical role to play in improving the quality of governance.

He said youth capacity to express and exercise their views has the potential to influence governance processes, making them more participatory.
