I think this is the right time to narrate what actually transpired between Adelabu and Umar.
We left APC for accord even when immediately after Asiwaju secured APC ticket Umar wanted to back out. He was persuaded with a promise that his ticket to contest has been secured in Accord. To our greatest shock, Adelabu did not secure the ticket for Umar in accord. Another person had been picked by accord. The person had even been campaigning with his billboards all over Ibadan North. Umar was bittered that Adelabu left him stranded.
When we discovered there was a serious problem, I went along with Umar to beg for the ticket from Hon. Mrs Bukola Ajaja. On getting to her, we were told that Adelabu didn’t even pay for any nomination form for Umar when Umar had sent the money to the account given by Bayo Adelabu a few weeks earlier.
To our greatest shock, we also discovered that the amount paid by Umar to Adelabu’s account for the form was more than the amount accord asked them to send for the form. They didn’t know we were right there with accord people when all these were going on.
Umar felt betrayed and abandoned. I know what Umar went through before he could save himself from the shame of going to accord without a ticket. This pained Umar Farouk Arisekola Alao that he was made to go through unnecessary stress. How do you describe a leader that only cares about his own ambition alone.
Also, the fact that Adelabu collected more than the amount he remitted to accord party is a great moral burden on his personality which will haunt him forever.
If Adelabu cannot forgive after several pleadings despite the fact he was at fault too, it shows the type of person he is. Umar had apologized to him for making the statement that is being circulated by Adelabu camp severally. Se olohun ni ni.
The same Adelabu that said APC is not marketable is finding it difficult to forgive someone who made a statement immediately after losing his election.
Adelabu also offended some people now. What does Adelabu want the teeming members of All Progressives Congress who toiled for the party in 2023 to say about him being the highest beneficiary of their effort. Has he forgotten that he said it publicly that APC was not marketable? For those who are justifying Adelabu’s action, I pray what happened between the duo of Adelabu and Umar happen to you. How will you feel when you are betrayed by someone you consider to be your brother?
