An Islamic organisation in Oyo state, “The Muslim Congress” ( TMC ), has urged the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde to be more proactive about the security of his state
In a press statement signed and made available to Westerndailynews.com by TMC Coordinator, Engr Daud Oladosu, the organization frown at the body language of governor Makinde’s administration towards the state security, cited three different avoidable crimes which happened within a week in Ibadan.
The Islamic organisation also suggested several ways in which the stage government can adopt to curb the incessant breach of security in the state.
” The spate of insecurities in Oyo State has become a quagmire that seems to have evaded permanent solution in the recent
times. These occurrences led to more than three different crises that have happened within a week in our dear state. The lead among the scenarios was that of Idi-Ape bullion van robbery that claimed not less than four lives. Two policemen, a commercial motorcyclist and Ustaz Mubarak Suleiman, a technocrat cum Islamic scholar and a personal aid to the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Prof Ganiyu Raji lost their lives in this ignoble incidence.
” There were dozen numbers of people that sustained varying degrees of injuries at the robbery scene. Some of them are still receiving treatment in different hospitals within Ibadan metropolis without any evidence of welfare attention from the government.
” It is quite unfortunate that the police in Oyo State could describe civilians trapped in the robbery scene and killed by the armed robbers as “onlookers”. We expect that the governor will break his silence and give the good people of Oyo State, especially families of the victims a consoling message.
” Another set of crises brewed up among the hoodlums and the members of Oyo State Park Management System at Oremeji-Agugu which eventually snowballed to that of Soka, Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The two fracases did not come to an end without having claiming two lives in the shoot at sight between warring factions of the commercial transporter unionists. All the above problems emanated within the periods of 10th to 12th February, 2022.
” Because it is part of our purpose of establishment as a leading Islamic organisation in Nigeria to partner with
governments in the progress and development of the nation at all levels, we at The Muslim Congress, Oyo State suggest
the following lasting solutions inter alia:
” The Muslim Congress (TMC), Oyo State cannot fold her arms and watch these unfortunate situations continue I that
manner.
” It is our belief that the major responsibilities of the governments at all levels is first to see to the safety and welfare of her citizenry. Hence, we as concerned stakeholders advise the peace-loving governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde to take the bull by the horns in stemming the tides of insecurities in our dear state.
” Because it is part of our purpose of establishment as a leading Islamic organisation in Nigeria to partner with
governments in the progress and development of the nation at all levels, we at The Muslim Congress, Oyo State suggest
the following lasting solutions inter alia:
1. That the security architecture of the state be reviewed and rejigged so as to contain the current spate of insecurities in
the state;
2. That His Excellency call a security stakeholders’ meeting to ventilate pragmatic ideas on security of lives and property
in the state;
3. That the government bring to book all unscrupulous individuals igniting pockets of violence and insecurity in the state
irrespective of political, religious or social affiliations of the individuals;
4. That the government design a sustainable economic revolution among youth to strategically nip in the bud, the
economic problems propelling youth into violence and criminal acts threatening lives and property in the state;
5. That the government partner with relevant bodies to make EXPOYO at Sango and the Oyo State Board for Vocational Education (BOTAVED) live up to the purposes of their creations.
6. That all citizens bring back their patriotism in support of the government to succeed in ensuring a habitable society as
contained in the SDGs.
7. That the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as well as Ministry of Women Affairs collaborate to handle the problems associated with out-of-school children While we commiserate with the Oyo State government and the family members left behind by the victims of the robbery, we equally hope that His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde will put a machinery in motion to strategically curtail insecurities in Oyo State.
As a well-meaning Nigerian and number one citizen of Oyo State, we believe, our governor will pick whatever pragmatic from our recommendations and firm it up with suggestions from other quarters to give us a state worth living in. “Boode o dun, bi igbe ni’luu ri” (Where domestic challenges are overwhelming, it appears live isn’t worth it).
