The 2027 governorship ambition of Ambassador Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, appears to face uncertainty as Governor Seyi Makinde is reportedly backing him for the position of PDP National Secretary.
Sources within the party disclosed that the decision emerged from a recent South-West PDP stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Makinde, following the micro-zoning of the National Secretary position to the South-West.
During the meeting, attended by key political figures across the region, deliberations centered on positions zoned to the South-West ahead of the forthcoming national convention. The highpoint of the gathering was the adoption of Ambassador Arapaja as the consensus candidate for the National Secretary slot, a move seen as a strategic recalibration within the regional PDP structure.
Arapaja, who has been widely speculated to be eyeing the Oyo governorship seat in 2027, has seen his political supporters quietly mobilizing for his ambition under the slogan “Konge Ire 2027.”
Party insiders revealed that the Ibadan-born politician had initially planned to conclude his tenure as PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) next month before officially declaring his gubernatorial bid.
