The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo has demonstrated his administration’s commitment to youth development and inclusive leadership by providing two outstanding secondary school students with the opportunity to experience public leadership firsthand.

The initiative followed the outstanding performance of Ode Aje Ajibola High School, Aremo, Ibadan, which emerged overall first in Ibadan and Oyo State in the 2025/2026 academic session for its exceptional performance in the utilisation of the Darsel Mathematics Chatbot.

As part of activities marking the achievement, the school’s overall best Mathematics student, Monsuru Abibat Omotolani, assumed the position of Day Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, while another student of the school, Lukman Tahir Olayemi, served as Day Vice Chairman of Ibadan East LCDA, Iwo Road, Ibadan.

The leadership experience took a remarkable turn when Hon. Akintayo entrusted his official vehicle to the student serving as Day Chairman for use during the exercise.

In another unusual demonstration of confidence and encouragement, the council chairman also handed over his official pen to the student, allowing her to attend to official files and receive members of the public who visited the Chairman’s office to present various matters.

The gesture provided the young student with practical exposure to leadership, local government administration and public service, while reinforcing the importance of giving young people opportunities to learn, lead and contribute meaningfully to society.

Hon. Akintayo, accompanied by some of his political associates, subsequently took the Day Chairman on a tour of the offices of the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Mrs. Omolara Aremu, the LCDA and other key offices within the local government.

The young student was warmly received by members of staff and residents of Ibadan North-East, who expressed delight at witnessing a young person being given such a rare opportunity to experience the responsibilities associated with public office.

Throughout the visit, the student received words of encouragement, commendation and goodwill from staff members and residents, making the experience both educational and memorable.

The initiative further underscores the commitment of the Akintayo administration to nurturing young minds and exposing students to the realities of leadership, governance and community service.

Rather than merely advocating youth empowerment, Hon. Akintayo demonstrated through his actions that young people can be trusted, encouraged and adequately prepared for future leadership responsibilities.

The Principal of Ode Aje Ajibola High School, Mrs. Mujidat Adeyinka, expressed appreciation to the council chairman for the gesture, describing him as a humble and approachable leader who genuinely desires the best for children.

She commended Hon. Akintayo for creating an experience that would remain memorable to the students and inspire them to aspire to greater heights.

The Day Chairman and Day Vice Chairman’s experience therefore went beyond the celebration of academic excellence. It provided practical leadership training and served as a demonstration of the possibilities that can emerge when responsible leaders deliberately create opportunities for young people to learn, participate and develop an understanding of governance.

The initiative also reinforced the message that youth development is not only about making promises for the future, but about empowering young people today with the knowledge, confidence and practical experience needed to become responsible leaders tomorrow.
