Alaafin: Makinde Urges Basorun, Gbadegesin Others To Learn From Eruwa Kingship Crisis ( Video )
The executive governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has urged Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Akinade Ayoola, Prince Lukman Gbadegesin, and others who are against the selection of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owooade as 46th to reconsider their decisions.

Governor Seyi Makinde led a host of dignitaries to the coronation of Oba Abimbola Owoade, who was crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo yesterday at Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo.
While addressing Oyo Sons and Daughters of Oyo town, Makinde advised the Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Ayoola, and other aggrieved Oyomesi to withdraw their case against the Alaafin stool from the court so as not to make Oyo town end like Eruwa town.
The governor said some people, through court, removed the Eleruwa of Eruwa, but the king was so fortunate that, after the due process for selection of a new King, the dethroned was still reselected.
” To those that are angry and vow to go to court, let them go and ask the people of Eruwa, after almost twenty 20 years since the court removed the king the process was done again and the same person was appointed as the Eleruwa of Eruwa, so don’t go to court to waste your time and our time. God has chosen for us”. Makinde said.

Eruwa king, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola was installed in 1998 but was later deposed on 29th November 2019 ( served for 21 years ) following a Supreme Court judgment.
Governor Makinde, on March 4th, 2025, approved the appointment of the deposed monarch as the new Eleruwa of Eruwa.

Makinde used the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Adegbola, and the long Kingship battle as an example to the Oyomesi, saying their grievance might lead to unexpected issues for the Alaafin stool.
The crisis between Makinde and Oyomesi started when the Governor ordered a fresh process for the selection of the Alaafin of Oyo, which the majority of kingmakers rejected because they had selected Prince Lukman Gbadegesin in a process that they said met all the criteria stipulated by the law.
The Governor eventually settled for another candidate, Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade selected without the consent of the majority of the kingmakers, a move rejected Oyomesi and Gbadegesin
and have since approached the court to seek redress against.
Makinde, while giving the staff of office to the new Alaafin, described the ascension of Oba Abimbola as a testament to his administration’s credibility as a stickler to due process, stating that his ascension is also a testament to the enduring spirit and resilience of Oyo indigenes.
He said his administration will continue to ensure that due process and laid down rules are followed in governing the state, added that his government would maintain a record of not interfering in traditional institutions and also remain impartial in the process of selecting traditional rulers
Some of the dignitaries present at the coronation included the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and Aare Oona Kankanfo of Yoruba, Iba Gani Adams, among others
