Oodua Progressive Union Donates Bedding Materials To Oyo State Govt. Hospital
…Lauds Makinde’s Free-Health Mission
The Oodua Progressive Union (OPU), a pan-Yoruba organization, has donated customized bedding materials to the children’s unit of a government hospital in Oyo State.
The gesture, announced during a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, is part of the Union’s annual philanthropic efforts across the southwestern states. According to the group, this initiative reflects their commitment to giving back to the community and supporting critical areas of need.
Established in 2011 by the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo, Iba Gani Abiodun Adams, the Oodua Progressive Union is dedicated to fostering unity among Yoruba people in the diaspora and creating avenues for them to contribute to the progress of their homeland.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Chief Tunarese Wahab Osindele, Chairman of the Humanitarian Committee, emphasized the importance of the donation. He explained that the initiative aims to positively impact the lives of Oyo State residents while complementing the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde, particularly in healthcare. Osindele commended the governor’s “Omituntun” free-health mission, a quarterly initiative that provides free medical services across all 33 local government areas in the state.
Chief Osindele further noted that the OPU, which has a presence in 103 countries worldwide, has undertaken various humanitarian projects, including the drilling of boreholes, distribution of medications, educational materials, clothing, and food items. These efforts are part of the activities marking this year’s conference, which is being hosted in Oyo State.
In her response, Dr. Ajetunmobi expressed gratitude to the OPU for its generosity, highlighting the importance of collaboration between individuals, groups, and government agencies in addressing the state’s developmental needs. She stressed that Governor Makinde’s administration is deeply committed to enhancing healthcare delivery and welcomed partnerships to sustain and expand the positive impact of the government’s efforts.
The Commissioner urged more organizations and stakeholders to emulate the OPU’s example, noting that collective efforts are essential for the continued progress and well-being of the state’s residents.
