Insecurity : Oyo Speaker’s Security Summit In Ibarapaland, What Stakeholders Discussed And Proffered Solutions
In his own effort to restore peace and adequate security in Ibarapaland, the Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin has held a separate security summit with youths, security personnel and traditional rulers in Ibarajpa, during which they discussed at length the causes and solutions to the security lapses in the zone.
At the submit most of the discusVjsants expressed their displeasure over the rising spate of killing, kidnappings, raping and maiming across Ibarapaland,
putting the blame on the herdsmen because of the similarity in their conduct and style of activity with those of the kidnappers.
They said, eye witnesses accounts as well as reports from many of those who had fallen victim of kidnapping gave the affirmation that, Fulani Herdsmen and Bororo living with them are the perpetrators of the evils.
While explaining the security situation in Ibarapaland, Hon. Sarafadeen Olaoniye, chairman Ibarapa central commended Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde for his unrelenting efforts in providing necessary assistance in fighting the security in the area, explained that, the security in Ibarapa was inherited from past administration but, the current happening has triggered all the concerned authorities on ways to provide a lasting solution to the evil activities of the herdsmen living with them in Ibarapa.
He added that, one of the measure they had took in reducing the criminal activities in the area was the closing down of all Cattle markets ( Kaara ) in the area. The council boss said the action was made to control the influx of herdsmen and to ascertain the meeting points of the accused.
Also, they had mandated it for all Motorcycle ( Okada ) private owners and operators not to access any linkable roads in Ibarapa from 10pm till down as this will curtailed the movement and gathering of the suspected kidnappers especially at nights.
Adding to what Olaoniye said, Hon. Daniel Okediji said all the caretaker chairmen, traditional rulers, community leaders and security personnel in Ibarapa were not living a stone unturned just to make sure the people of the area can boast of security freedom in their places.
He buttressed that, the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Ibarapaland are intentional and will to unleash terror on yoruba tribe, because their actions has coordination. Okediji revealed that, Fulanis in their area always feels secured and untouchable because they always tells the yorubas of having families and friends in Abuja whom they can call for rescue if they dare try anything bad against them.
Contributing on behalf of farmers, Comrade Oyinlola Bolanle representative of Real Farmers Association of Nigeria lamented on the continuous damages causing by herdsmen and their cows on farmlands, accused Oyo state government of not having a teeth that can bit an erring hand. He queried Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin one reason why the passed and signed Oyo state anti-grazing law yet to got to implementation state.
In is own provision for way out, he said the state need to start the implementation of the signed anti-grazing law in the state so as for the herders to embrace and be committed to modern breeding process by creating grazing reserves and practice ranching to prevent cattle roaming about. Opined that it is a law with full implementation best to checkmate illegality in the society.

The people of Ibarapa Zone implored Oyo state Government and security personnel to support them in their attempt to chase out the visitors who have turned the privilege given to them to leave in Ibarapaland to a deserved right, thereby going to an extent of leashing terror on the sons and daughters of the land.
Total Execution of Oyo state anti-grazing Bill
At the summit, the people of Ibarapa used the channel to implored Oyo state government to start the implementation of the passed and accented anti-grazing Bill. They said banning of open grazing and night grazing will curb the unhinderance movement and secret attacks of the herdsmen.
Seek For A Police command and More Security Personnel In The Zone
Also in their efforts to find a way to the incessant killing, kidnapping raping and maiming in Ibarapaland, the attendees of the summit urged Oyo state government to use his office to channel a police command in Ibarapaland also asked for provision of additional security personnel with a match amours to fight high crimes in the zone.
In police contribution, CSP Maku Adremi, the DPO Igangan police divison said that police has recognised the need for cooperation with the community and to encourage members of the community to come forward with crime fighting information that will assist the police in the discharge of their duties.
According to CSP Aderemi, He said, the role of traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders in the emerging trend cannot be overemphasized, as traditional rulers are the custodians of culture and traditions in their various communities and closest to the people. He suggested that if government can clear the bushy areas along the highways and leveled up the potholes, it will be easier for security personnel to carry out their duty in fighting insecurity in the area more effectively.
Aside Oyo state Assembly speaker, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin who converged the summit, other elected and appointed officer holders present were : lawmaker representing Ibarapa North and central Hon. Peter Ojedokun, Oyo state commissioner for Sports and Youth Develoment, Seun Fakorede and state commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Mrs. Olufunmilayo Orisadeyi, Executive Adviser on Security Matters to governor Seyi Makinde, Rtd. CSP Sunday Odukoya, Chairman, Oyo state Water corporation Dr. Bayo Anthony Adepoju and Oyo state Civil service commission member, Hon. Solomon Ogunjim.
As the security submit was held at differently venues, the one with the youths, students, association, Forums, security was held at Igboora while the one with traditional rulers and community leaders was held at Idenre Town Hall.

Participants at the summit expressed displeasure over the rising spate of killing, kidnappings, raping and maiming across Ibarapaland, putting the blame on the herdsmen.
They said with eye witness accounts and reports from victims of kidnapping, Fulani Herdsmen and Bororo living with them are the perpetrators of the evils.

He said, the summit was called with the aim to x-ray the spate of insecurity in Ibarapaland and to proffer all inclusive and workable solutions and approach that will complement the effort of government in returning peace and security in Ibarapaland as well as suggest ways to prevent such security crisis in future. He assured that all complaints and solutions suggested are documented and will be presented to governor Makinde for immediate actions.
