Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has explained that the decision to move candidates contesting the 2027 general elections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) was informed by the unresolved crisis and pending court cases within the PDP.

Makinde made the clarification on Thursday evening at the Watershed Event Centre during the unveiling of the governorship candidate of the APM, Bimbo Adekanmbi following the party’s governorship primary election.

The governor said the move became necessary to avoid uncertainties surrounding the internal crisis rocking the PDP, noting that his administration and political structure were determined to present candidates for the 2027 general elections regardless of the challenges within the party.

According to him, the lingering factional disputes and unresolved legal battles within the PDP could negatively affect the chances of candidates during the elections.

Makinde stated that the APM was chosen because it remains free from internal crises and court cases, making it a safer platform for the party’s candidates ahead of the polls.

“We decided to move all our candidates to the APM because it is the only political party currently free from court cases and internal crises. The PDP is factionalised, and such issues may affect the chances of candidates in winning elections,” the governor said.

He further assured supporters that despite the crisis in the PDP, his political camp would participate fully in the 2027 elections and emerge victorious in all positions being contested.

It would be recalled that weeks ago, Governor Makinde and leaders of the PDP in Oyo State concluded a consensus arrangement for candidates expected to contest the 2027 elections under the PDP platform.

However, the candidates were reportedly directed to register and obtain nomination and expression of interest forms under the APM in preparation for the elections.
