Tragedy as Six Final-Year LAUTECH Students Including Pregnant Woman Killed in Road Accident


Six students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), including a heavily pregnant woman, have reportedly lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis.
The Registrar of the institution, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Ogbomoso, describing the development as tragic and a monumental loss to the university community.

According to the statement, the deceased students were identified as Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth, and Aroke Ozavize Victoria. All six were final-year students of the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Nursing programme.
Mrs. Balogun explained that the students were travelling in a commercial bus from Suleja to the LAUTECH campus in Ogbomoso for their final examinations when the accident occurred at Otte, a community in Kwara State.
She noted that the university management was deeply saddened by the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased students. The Registrar also urged members of the public and the university community to pray for the repose of the souls of the departed.
The tragic accident has thrown the entire LAUTECH community into mourning, as students and staff continue to grapple with the loss of the six promising undergraduates.
