The Government of Oyo State has officially approved the appointment of Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun as the new Balogun of Ogbomosoland, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the traditional leadership of the ancient town.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, who confirmed that Governor *’Seyi Makinde* has given formal approval to the nomination, following due process and adherence to customary and legal provisions.
The stool of the Balogun of Ogbomosoland became vacant after the passing of the late Alhaji Chief Shittu Fasina, a respected community leader who served with dedication and honor. In accordance with tradition, Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun was unanimously nominated by the Balogun Tiwo Atere-Gbebi Ruling House, one of the recognized royal lineages in Ogbomosoland.
“This appointment has been ratified under Part II of the Chiefs Law, Cap. 28, Laws of Oyo State, 2000*,” Hon. Ojo said. “It reflects not only the will of the ruling house but also the collective interest of the people of Ogbomoso in preserving the sanctity of our traditional institutions.”
Dr. Balogun, a well-regarded son of Ogbomoso, brings with him a wealth of experience and community service. His appointment has been met with widespread acceptance and is seen as a step forward in strengthening the town’s cultural heritage and traditional leadership structure.
The government has called on all sons and daughters of Ogbomosoland to support the new Balogun and to join hands in promoting unity, development, and the enduring values of the community.
The formal installation ceremony is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
