These are very tough times for Governor Seyi Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo state.

The Governor is fighting tooth and nail to avoid defeat from the All Progressives Congress, APC for a second time after the 2023 general election.

You might have forgotten, the Governor and his Party, the PDP were defeated by the APC in a re-run election for a House of Assembly seat in Saki sometimes last year.

The By-election for Ibadan North Federal Constituency is slated for August 16, 2025.

A couple of days ago, when Governor Makinde led the PDP Campaign train at Bodija Market, he emphasized that the August 16 By-election would lay the foundation for what to expect in 2027 in Oyo state and that is where desperation has set in.

Just yesterday, Governor Makinde attempted to prevent the APC from Campaigning at the Bodija Market by dropping heaps of granite on the open spaces and blocking some areas with Tractors.

The APC Campaign was scheduled for today, 8th of August, 2025 and the Governor, having successfully held his Party’s Campaign, flooded the same spot with granite to serve as obstruction.

Governor Makinde has exhibited acts of desperation before Thursday.

Immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC announced August 16, 2025 as the date for the By-election, he quickly rushed to gift the Bodija Market Traders a Bus and immediately announced that he would rehabilitate the roads within the Market.

You would want to ask, why now?

The PDP have also been going around telling eligible voters not to vote for the APC, because, according to them, the APC and President Tinubu are harbingers of hardships.

Unfortunately for them, we have countered this baseless lies by telling the people of Ibadan North that Governor Seyi Makinde and the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government are responsible for the hardships in Ibadan North Local Government and Oyo state in general.

We provided empirical facts to prove our assertions by telling them that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria placed far more higher responsibilities for their well being on the Governor and the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government than it did on Tinubu.

We made them realize that the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government is not only the one who has been collecting taxes and rates on Markets, Garages, Parks and Abbatoir within Ibadan North, he is also the one who has been receiving tremendously increased monthly Allocations on their behalf and should be held accountable for their well being.

Thankfully, Ibadan North is a highly civilized area.

Having discovered that their lies and propaganda would not work, the PDP and Governor Makinde have resorted to cheap blackmail and crass hypocrisy.

I read the Press release by Michael Ogunsina, the Public Relations Officer of Oyo PDP where he accused Oyo APC of not honoring the late Olubadan because the APC is campaigning today at Bodija and I laughed.

Today is Friday and a working day.

I am not aware that the Governor of Oyo state declared today a work free day in honor of the burial of the late Monarch.

I also know that Governor Makinde possesses the power to declare today a work free day if he so pleases.

Shall we also conclude that Governor Makinde has refused to honor the late Monarch as a result of that?

If I were Michael Ogunsina, I won’t venture into bringing issues around the late Monarch into play no matter how tempting because, doing so, would reopen old wounds.

Were we not all here when the same Governor Makinde shook the whole Ibadan to Its roots when he got power drunk and kept delaying the official installation of the same late Monarch despite the fact that his name was validly submitted to him by Kingmakers?

Is Ogunsina aware of the kind of trauma the actions of Governor Makinde might have caused the elderly Royal Father at the time?

Was that honorable?

Where was Michael Ogunsina when the same Governor Makinde chose to enclose a controversial Government gazette in the program booklets of the installation of the late Monarch and such was distributed to invited Guests from all over the world?

A Government gazette that was meant to be sold, but which were freely distributed in malice?

Is Michael Ogunsina aware that the act of enclosing that gazette in the program booklets on such a day actually embarrassed a lot of invited Guests on the day?

Is that honorable?

When will Governor Makinde and the PDP wake up to the reality of the fact that people are no longer fools?

How would someone want us to forget those condemnable actions and focus on the present acts of eye service?

Our mumu don do.

I will like to advise the PDP to address the real issues around the Campaign for the By-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency and leave hypocrisy on one side because it won’t work.

What we want Michael Ogunsina, the PDP and Governor Makinde to concentrate on is to tell the world, most especially, the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency, what they have been doing with the billions of Naira received as monthly Allocations from Abuja on their behalf.

It’s been over six years. Governor Makinde and the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government should point out their achievements to the people of Ibadan North and stop this shameful distractions.
