Oyo Swap Coordination Office Organizes Engagement Meeting Between NHFs, DSS
The Oyo SWAp Compact Initiatives Coordination Office of the State Ministry of Health has engaged all the State members of the National Health Fellowship Program (NHFP) with the Department of the State Security Services (DSSS), Oyo State Command on Thursday 20th of March, 2025.

The National Health Fellows’ Program is one of the priorities of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) initiative of the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria aimed at transforming the Nigerian healthcare sector at the National and Subnational level.
It will be recalled that the Presidency mandated NHFs to work in collaboration with the DSS, ensuring security integration into the health sector
This visit to the State DSS was a crucial step in ensuring the National Health Fellows were fully supported in their mission and with a guaranteed safety in their activities.
The visitation is also aimed at fostering a collaboration and security assurance among many other positive outcomes.

Speaking at the event, the State SWAp Desk Officer who also doubles as the State Coordinator for the National Health Fellowship Program (NHFP); Dr Oluwatunmise Adeagbo said, ‘ On behalf of the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, I present all these State members of the National Health Fellows to you today at the Oyo State Command of the Department of State Security Services.
Speaking on the objectives of the National Health Fellowship Program (NHFP), Dr Oluwatunmise Adeagbo explained that the Federal Ministry of Health piloted the Sector-Wide Approach Program (SWAP) as part of efforts to reform Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

He further highlighted that the NHFS initiative is one of the 27 Priority initiative programs of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led to Administration for the Health Sector, aimed at integrating younger professionals under the age of 35 years into the health system. These fellows will undergo extensive training, including fieldwork, to build capacity, mentorship programs and support the State SWAP Office.
He noted that several factors had negatively impacted the sector, prompting the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to introduce a new blueprint for healthcare reform.
Dr. Oluwatunmise emphasized that the presidency has mandated NHFs to work in collaboration with the DSS, ensuring security integration into the health sector. The program’s nine-month training will enhance cooperation between agencies and security services.
In his response, Deputy Director of Intelligence, representing the Director General of the State Security Service Mrs M.A. Amuda, acknowledged the DSS’s awareness of the NHF Program and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the fellows’ safety and seamless integration into their respective local governments.
He advised the National Health Fellows to report to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in their assigned local government areas upon resumption and establish communication with the DSS officer attached to their location. This, he explained, would help foster mutual understanding between the security service and the health sector.
Amuda assured the NHFs that their well-being remained a priority and urged them to contact their local DSS officer whenever necessary.
The meeting proceeded with the official signing of the DSS Registers by the NHFP State Coordinator, Dr. Oluwatunmise Adeagbo.
In his closing remarks, Deputy Director of Security, Mr. M. Nwachukwu, expressed gratitude to the fellows and encouraged them to uphold integrity in their work. He urged them to report any cases of corruption within the health sector and reiterated the DSS’s readiness to collaborate with the NHFS to achieve their shared goals.
