Dr Adeniran who expressed concern over the number of out of school children in Nigeria with a figure of 10.5 million children explained that, Oyo SUBEB was collaborating with the Federal ministry of education, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC and the World Bank to reduce the figure.

He said about 477 informal learning centres had been established across selected local governments in Oyo state to absorb children in the informal settings, such as the Almajiris, street children and hawkers.

The SUBEB chairman noted that the number of students in schools in Oyo state had increased as a result of the free education policies of governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

Dr Adeniran said the task of improving the education sector was enormous and could not be left to government alone.

He solicited the cooperation of philanthropists, old students association and the public at improving the standard in education.
