The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Oyo State has formally collapsed its structure as party leaders and members declared their readiness to follow former party chieftain, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The announcement was made on Thursday during an enlarged meeting held in Ibadan, following several weeks of consultations and zonal meetings across the state’s geopolitical zones.

At the final meeting held on Wednesday, May 22, at AC Hall, opposite Tampa Building, Adeoyo, NNPP leaders and Olopoeyan’s loyalists reiterated their support for the veteran politician, describing him as a dependable and benevolent leader worthy of continued allegiance.

Speaking at the event, the NNPP Southwest Financial Secretary, Pastor Abiodun Adesola, applauded Olopoeyan’s consistent efforts to uplift party members and his loyalists. He noted that the NNPP structure in Oyo State became defunct following Olopoeyan’s departure from the party.

“NNPP in Oyo no longer exists as a functional political force since the exit of Alhaji Olopoeyan. His leadership gave the party its relevance and visibility,” Adesola stated.

Also addressing the gathering, a prominent NNPP leader, Baba Abdul-Raman Tunde Laaniba, affirmed that party members across the state are aligned with Olopoeyan’s move to the PDP, citing his political strength and dedication to grassroots mobilization.

Similarly, the NNPP Chairman in Ibarapa East local government, Ismail Musibau, declared that members in the Ibarapa axis are fully behind Olopoeyan’s defection, describing him as “the political leader to follow to the promised land.”

Also speaking, Engr. Aderemi Adetomiwa, Akinyele party chairman Akinyele Local Government praised Olopoeyan for his accommodating and trustworthy nature, while Hannah Babarinde, a political appointee from Ibarapa Central, expressed gratitude for his support to NNPP members within the PDP government.

“His generosity and inclusive leadership have distinguished him among political leaders in the state,” Babarinde said.

Notable figures at the meeting included NNPP State women leader, Ayobamidele Idowu Adekunle, Zonal Financial Secretary Oyesola Abiodun, State Women Leaders Ademola Oke and Riike Olaniyan, Alhaji Musa Babajide, Mojeed Adeahina, Àdejumo John, Elder Ladale, among others.

With this development, a significant number of NNPP members are expected to officially register with the PDP in the coming weeks, strengthening the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
