The Oyo State Government has earmarked ₦4.278 billion for the conduct of chairmanship and councillorship elections scheduled for December 29, 2026, across the state’s 33 local government areas.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement, saying the State Executive Council had approved the payment of the government’s counterpart funding to the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to commence preparations for the elections.
According to the statement, the cost of conducting the elections will be jointly funded by the state government and the 33 local government councils, with the councils contributing 60 per cent of the total amount and the state government providing the remaining 40 per cent.
Under the arrangement, the local government councils will contribute ₦2.5668 billion, while the state government will provide ₦1.7112 billion.
The approved funding is expected to support preparations for the December 29 polls, during which voters across the 33 local government areas will elect their respective chairmen and councillors.
