Olayanju Begins Dredging Of Canals To Tackle Flooding In Olorunsogo LG

The executive chairman of Olorunsogo local government area of Oyo state, Hon. Qozeem Olayanju has started taking precautionary measures against flooding in his council area.

The council chairman commenced the measure with the dredging of the water channel and evacuation of debris under the Ayetoro and Hon. Wasiu Olatunbosun linking bridge.

Olayanju who visited the area on inspection said the steps taken would no doubt helped at giving the road a facelift and make the road motorable for commuters and individuals.

Olayanju also hinted that the local government’s effort was to ensure the free flow of water when it rained

” Part of our administration’s plans is,
taking precautionary measures. Weeks ago, the site was inspected to know the water channel status, and it was not in a healthy and proper state, which is affecting the entire road, we concluded on fixing the water channel, right now the dredging is ongoing.

” We are doing this to minimize the occurrence of floods, we need to undertake regular dredging of rivers, canals, and creeks everywhere needed to evacuate silt and increase the capacity of the channels to drain excess water and prevent the overflow into main road communities. This action will avoid further damage to the road/bridge or nearby buildings, making sure there won’t be any further issues later in the future.

” We assure the community that the dredging will be done thoroughly, and in no time, the condition of the water channel/bridge will be back to its normal state”,

He stated that work will soon commence on other necessary channels with a view to opening all blocked canals for free flow of water into the river.
