…… Says Ibadan Oba-In-Council is not known to law

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Wednesday told his estranged high chiefs that they would have been banished based on the request from Ibadan people due to their unlawful acts capable of destroying the aged long traditional system.

The paramount ruler of Ibadanland, who condemned the aggrieved high chiefs for their alleged penchant for illegality, lawlessness and absurdity in the use of obaship title, told them that what they did was equivalent of a coup to disrupt the smooth flow of Ibadan chieftaincy system, and were liable to banishment.

In a letter signed by the monarch and addressed to the estranged high chiefs, in response to their letter dated January 27, 2020, Oba Adetunji faulted the attitude of the high chiefs, which he described as unbecoming.

The first-class traditional ruler said that the high chiefs were not only rude in their letter, but also lacked royal etiquette.

“If you have teachable spirit, putting a letter meant for Olubadan in the public domain before it eventually gets to him is indicative of your tacit lack of royal etiquette,” he said.

Oba Adetunji said for the avoidance of doubt, the so- called Ibadan Oba-In-Council is not known to law, let alone the custom and tradition of Ibadanland.
