A political group under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North Local Government, known as *Ibadan North Progressives*, has raised strong opposition to the potential candidacy of Farooq Arisekola for the upcoming House of Representatives bye-election scheduled for August 16.

In a statement signed by the group’s coordinator, Wakeel Sobaloju, the group urged APC leaders at the national, state, and local levels not to consider Arisekola as the party’s flag bearer, describing such a move as tantamount to “fielding a PDP candidate under an APC banner.”

The group accused Arisekola of abandoning the APC during a critical period ahead of the 2023 general elections, stating that he defected to the Accord Party to contest for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat. According to Sobaloju, Arisekola’s political disloyalty was further cemented when he allegedly joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shortly after the elections and openly worked for the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde.

“Farooq Arisekola, despite being politically nurtured by APC, betrayed the party by actively working against our governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, and our House of Assembly candidates in the 2023 elections,” Sobaloju said. “He has never shown genuine commitment to the party’s ideals and only returned for selfish political interest.”

The group expressed concern that Arisekola’s nomination would demoralize loyal party members and weaken APC’s chances in the bye-election, describing him as unfit to fill the vacant seat left by the late Hon. Musiliu Akinremi “Jagaban.” They noted that Arisekola was a political rival of the late lawmaker and had allegedly provided political intelligence to Governor Makinde’s camp during the last election cycle.

They further cautioned the party against being swayed by sentiments or emotional appeals, urging leaders to ensure a transparent and inclusive primary process where all aspirants can compete fairly.

“We strongly advise that all aspirants for the bye-election be given equal opportunity to participate in a primary. The party must not allow Farooq to manipulate the process through emotional blackmail or political desperation,” the group stated.

The Ibadan North Progressives called for vigilance among APC stakeholders, emphasizing that loyalty, consistency, and party discipline must guide the selection of candidates if the party intends to retain the constituency.
