Governor Seyi Makinde And Reckless Borrowings: We Will Purge Oyo Of The Enchantment Of The Rain Water ( Baba Olomi Tuntun) By Sola Abegunde
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo state are definitely shaken by the solidarity walk staged by Oyo APC on Monday, September 8, 2025.

Since that day, both Governor Makinde and his Party have not been at peace.
Michael Ogunsina, Oyo PDP spokesperson labeled the solidarity walk an assemblage of jobless men and women.
I have gone through his press statement and I do not consider the contents as one worthy of dignifying with a response.
However, it does seems like the Oyo PDP spokesperson has a disagreement between his mind and his mouth.

His mouth is always faster than his mind.
If you labeled people who staged a peaceful solidarity walk in support of a whistleblower as ‘ jobless ‘ because their grouse is against Governor Makinde, your Party man, does it follow that Governor Makinde was jobless, when, as a sitting Governor, he joined Labor Unions to protest against ‘ hardships ‘ not long ago?

It was the same Michael Ogunsina who made a post on Facebook and used the ‘f’ word to qualify Hon. Shittu Ibrahim.
I consider him a crying baby. You can not slap a baby and expect him not to cry.
I saw another worthless piece by one Gbade Adeniyi who claimed to write from Oke-Ogun.
The clown claimed that Oyo APC distributed ‘ ogogoro handouts ‘, to commuters and the public during the solidarity walk.
Interestingly, he used a picture of one of the protesters who was holding a handbill for his worthless story.
His story was published on Tuesday morning.
He claimed to write from Oke-Ogun which means he was nowhere near the protesters on Monday.
Yet, in his dream, he assumed that ‘ ogogoro handouts ‘ ( whatever that means) was distributed during the solidarity walk.
Since that program by the Oyo APC on Monday, a series of rockets and missiles have been fired from the Government of Oyo state but unfortunately, none of them hit the target.
I am surprised that Michael Ogunsina, Oyo PDP and the Busy Bodies have not considered holding a solidarity walk for Hon. Salami Waliu, the Minority Leader of the Oyo state House of Assembly who have been speaking in their favor.
Honestly, I pity the young man.
He has been used and will be left to face the music on his own.
That is the trademark of Governor Seyi Makinde and Oyo PDP.
When Hon. Waliu set out to betray his Constituency and the good people of Oyo state, I doubt if he looked at Mukaila Auxiliary and others who once thought they were stakeholders in this Government.
Having said that, I want to talk about a document I saw yesterday and I will bring out some important points for consideration by the public, most especially, those who, perhaps, out of ignorance or sheer hypocrisy always jump on the narratives of the exchange rates by Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to the document, the Oyo state Executive Council approved funds for some projects across the state yesterday.
When I saw the list of projects and the funds attached to them, something inside of me told me that an alibi is being worked out already.
Hon. Shittu raised specific questions about the fact that the Oyo state House of Assembly have been approving loans for Governor Makinde without attaching the list of projects they are meant for executing.
In the coming days, watch out for the listed projects in the approval of yesterday.
They will definitely form part of the defense of the Oyo state House of Assembly, PDP and Governor Makinde.
Unfortunately for them, I saw a loophole and I want us to examine the loophole together.
Amongst the listed projects, I saw this particular ones and I will quote verbatim from the document. ” Reconstruction of Isaba- Ogundoyin Road, Eruwa (0.75km) and Lanlate Garage Junction – Local Government Junction – Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic -Oke-Ola Junction Road, Eruwa (1.9klm) for the sum of # 4, 146, 068, 573. 56. …”
I have very serious issues with the above and I will break down my concerns.
I appeared on a Radio program yesterday and a couple of callers made heavy weather about the issue of exchange rates.
It is obvious that some are ignorant about their references to the exchange rates and how it has affected the prices of commodities, there by necessitating a surge in the volume of money required to finish up certain projects.
I have issues, very serious ones with contract sums for the projects in Ibarapa as is contained in the document.
I have issues with the incongruous manner with which the projects were spelt out and arranged and of course, the total length of the Road projects but I will begin from the area where Governor Makinde have been deceiving people about the exchange rates.
The reconstruction of the Isaba- Ogundoyin Road project was originally awarded by Governor Seyi Makinde about six years ago.
The project was allegedly contracted to a sibling of the Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin.
Some skeletal jobs were done on the site and the project was abandoned for about six years until now.
For those who felt Governor Makinde is right to continue to borrow recklessly as a results of the high exchange rates, I have a question for them.
What was the exchange rates six years ago when Governor Makinde awarded the Isaba- Ogundoyin Road?
What was the total approved contract sum for the project at the time?
What has stopped the Governor from completing the project in time?
Has subsidies on petroleum products been removed as at then and was Tinubu the president of Nigeria at the time?
The project, according to the new approval by the Oyo state Government, will be completed in 12 months.
Wonderful! A project which has been abandon for about six years when the exchange rates were not as high as it is now, to be completed within 12 months now that the exchange rates are higher?
I will like to digress a bit to draw another example of projects awarded by Governor Seyi Makinde before the exchange rates went up but which were abandoned until the exchange rates went up.
The 48 klm Ido/Eruwa road was awarded in 2023 and Governor Makinde promised to complete the project by December of 2023.
As we speak, less than 5 percent of the project has been done.
The last time Governor Makinde spoke about the project, his excuse were the exchange rates.
Very obviously, the high exchange rates in the above listed circumstances, as well as many others are just afterthoughts.
If the contract sums for these abandoned projects increase as a results of the high exchange rates, who should be blamed?
Governor Makinde and his zombies will want us to blame Tinubu but that is nonsensical.
How do you justify the fact that a state Government couldn’t complete a road project of just 0.75 klm in six years?
There are many other circumstances like that.
Like I said, I have issues with the incongruous manner with which the other projects in Eruwa and Lanlate were described in the document and I will like the Oyo state Government to come clean about this suspicious description of the listed projects.
For emphasis sake, I do not know of a road described as ” Lanlate Garage Junction- Local Government Junction – Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic -Oke-Ola Junction Road, Eruwa” as captured by the document and the 1.9 klm stretch is confusing.
I know that the Eruwa New Garage Junction- Local Government- Oke- Ola Junction Road was allegedly awarded to a sibling of the Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly about six years ago and just like the Isaba- Ogundoyin Road, the project has since been abandoned.
At most, the stretch of the said road is less than 700 meters.
I do not understand and neither do I know what is meant by ‘ Lanlate Garage Junction- Local Government Junction – Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic -Oke-Ola Junction Road.
Ibarapa East Local Government Secretariat is located in Eruwa not in Lanlate.
The reference to ‘ Lanlate Garage Junction- Local Government Junction…’ calls for clarification.
Is it that the road project in question covers from the Lanlate old Garage- Orita Junction – Eruwa New Garage Junction- Local Government- Oke-Ola Junction?
If that is the case, I withdraw my objections against the cumulative total stretch put at 1.9 klm, if not, I demand serious explanations.
I also have issues with the over 4 billion Naira cost of the projects.
The total stretch of the road projects we are talking about here is less than 2klm in total, according to their own document.
There are no major Bridges to be constructed anywhere on the roads.
The sum of over 4 billion Naira is not only outrageous, it is unbelievable.
It is equally important for Governor Makinde to tell the public the name of the contractor who will be handling this job.
It has been alleged that the projects, ( the ones easily identified) were allegedly awarded to a sibling of the Oyo state House of Assembly Speaker.
These are weighty allegations.
It has equally been alleged that the rehabilitation of the Eleruwa Palace and the projects within the Oyo state College of Education, Lanlate, ( not listed here), were awarded to the Speaker through proxies.
Governor Seyi Makinde and of course Debo Ogundoyin must address these weighty allegations.
There is no doubts that these projects and others would be tied to the questionable loans.
The question is, why wait till now to spend borrowed money on projects you have abandoned for years when the exchange rates was still moderate?
I seriously suspect inflation of contracts sums and this is where all of us in Oyo state must be on our toes.
Governor Makinde is running on a homeward stretch.
He is currently involved in high power National politics.
He will be hosting the National Convention of his Party in November.
Our Governor needs more money if he intends to step into the shoes of Nyesom Wike.
Unfortunately for Oyo state, Oyo is not as rich as Wike’s Rivers state, yet, so much money is required.
Governor Seyi Makinde has completely taken over the resources of the 33 Local Governments but much more resources is still required.
He has committed the future of Oyo state to debts spreading over forty to fifty years but some lickspittles want us to clap and dance before the Emperor.
It will not happen.
An enchantment doesn’t catch everyone at the same time. ( Eedi kii di gbogbo eeyan po leekan soso).
Speaking of enchantment, I am beginning to believe that some people are seriously under a very powerful spell.
Sometimes, you listen to otherwise sensible persons trying to justify Governor Makinde’s series of recklessness and you begin to wonder, what is happening here?
The other time, I was having a discussion with someone who said the APC would loose the 2023 gubernatorial election because, according to him, the Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Distinguished Senator Teslim Folarin used to harbor thugs. ( It doesn’t matter that he had no proof, the hearsays were enough for him).
My friend is an ‘ Alakowe’ and I asked him if he knew Auxiliary or if he had heard about him.
He said yes. He heard that the guy allegedly committed certain crimes but he was sure Governor Makinde wouldn’t have anything to do with such ‘ nonsense ‘, he called it.
Even when I told him that there were instances when Governor Makinde allegedly protected Auxiliary from being arrested by Law enforcements, he went up in anger and started talking about Ajimobi, Akala and even Baba Adedibu!
I am surprised to see that PDP and Governor Makinde’s apologists are latching on to the statements credited to the Hon. Speaker of the House of Representatives against reckless borrowings.
With due respect, in the face of what is currently happening in Oyo state, only a nit-wit will consider the House of Representatives Speaker’s position as a ground to defend Governor Makinde.
Let me ask the nit-wits this simple question, can Debo Ogundoyin do what Abass is doing?
The absence of what Speaker Abass is doing is exactly the grouse of Hon. Ibrahim Shittu and Oyo APC.
Abass clearly mentioned the figures and drew a red line and said, look, we can’t go beyond this line.
Can Debo Ogundoyin tell us the exact figures of the debts of Oyo state and draw the red line?
Haba! Think!!! Abass is not a good reference point for Governor Makinde and the Oyo state House of Assembly and the earlier they know this, the better for them.
It’s almost impossible for anyone to defend Governor Makinde and the Oyo state House of Assembly on this matter without looking stupid.
While discussing the issue of reckless borrowings by Governor Seyi Makinde on a Radio station yesterday, a particular gentleman by the name of Sulaimon called in twice.
He took so much time, blowing red hot in defense of Governor Makinde.
According to him, there is nothing the APC will do to stop Governor Makinde from taking loans.
He was not concerned about the alleged breach of procedures by Hon. Shittu.
All he cares about is that Governor Makinde must have his way.
I immediately concluded that if he wasn’t one of Governor Makinde’s Data boys, then, he is one of those who are in need of deliverance from the enchantment of the rain water.
He and many others like him deserves our sympathy and attention.
I told someone that an enchantment done with or attached to rain water will defeat itself ultimately.
Is it not said that no matter how long it rains, the downpour will eventually stop?
For those who rely on the enchantment of ‘ Omi’, the time for the downpour to stop have come.
It won’t be raining forever!
We know Governor Makinde is hurting by the activities of Oyo APC.
Unfortunately, he must be prepared for more.
Party is over!
