Oyo PDP Clears 105 Chairmanship Aspirants, Disqualifies 41 After Screening


The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the outcome of its Chairmanship and Councillorship Screening Exercise ahead of the forthcoming local government primary elections.
The party disclosed the results on Sunday evening through a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Engr. Akeem Olatunji.

According to the statement, a total of 147 aspirants applied for the Chairmanship positions across the 33 local government areas of the state. Out of this number, 105 aspirants were successfully cleared to contest in the party’s primary election, while 41 aspirants failed to meet the screening requirements. One aspirant was reported absent during the exercise.
For the Councillorship positions, 808 aspirants were screened, out of which 749 were cleared, while 59 aspirants were disqualified for failing to satisfy the party’s guidelines.
“The cleared Chairmanship aspirants fulfilled all the conditions and guidelines set by the party and are therefore eligible to contest in the primary elections in their respective local governments,” the statement said. “Those not cleared failed to meet some of the screening requirements and are declared unfit to contest.”
A breakdown of the 41 disqualified Chairmanship aspirants across the zones shows that Ibadan Zone recorded the highest number with 22, followed by Oyo Zone with nine, Oke-Ogun Zone with six, Ogbomoso Zone with three, and Ibarapa Zone with one.

The party also announced that its Appeal Committee would commence sittings on Monday, March 1, 2021, at the PDP State Secretariat in Molete, Ibadan, from 9:00 a.m. Aspirants who were not cleared but believe they have genuine cases are advised to appear before the committee with relevant documents.
Meanwhile, the PDP confirmed that its Chairmanship primary elections will hold on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the 33 local government secretariats across the state.
