The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final lists of candidates for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections, with questions arising over the reported absence of some assembly candidates’ names from the published records.
The commission published separate documents for the Oyo State governorship election and the 2027 State Houses of Assembly elections on its official website ahead of the polls scheduled for February 6, 2027.
The development has drawn attention to the need for political parties and their candidates to examine the published lists and confirm that the names submitted to the electoral body have been accurately reflected.
For Oyo State, the governorship list contains 16 candidates representing different political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Accord Party.
However, the reported absence of some State House of Assembly candidates’ names requires further verification against INEC’s official document and the nomination records submitted by the respective political parties.
Under Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, a registered political party that discovers an omission from the published list may notify INEC in writing within 14 days of publication. The notification must be signed by the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary and supported by an affidavit, according to reports on the commission’s publication timetable.
The provision offers a formal avenue for parties to raise concerns over missing names and seek the commission’s attention within the stipulated period.
Meanwhile, the affected parties and candidates are expected to compare the published list with their nomination records to establish whether any discrepancies exist and take appropriate steps where necessary.
INEC’s final list is available on its official website for public scrutiny.
