The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the fees for its nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive electoral cycle.
The announcement, which emerged from Abuja on Friday, outlines a significant increase in the cost of forms across key political offices, a development that may shape the dynamics of participation within the party.
According to details released, aspirants seeking the party’s presidential ticket are required to pay ₦200 million for the nomination and expression of interest forms. Those contesting for governorship positions will pay ₦150 million, while senatorial aspirants are to purchase forms at ₦100 million.
For the House of Representatives, the APC pegged the cost of forms at ₦70 million, while aspirants for State Houses of Assembly are expected to pay ₦20 million.
Political observers note that the high fees could limit participation to financially strong aspirants, while potentially sparking debates around inclusiveness and internal democracy within the party. However, party insiders argue that the costs are necessary to streamline the nomination process and ensure only serious contenders enter the race.
The APC is yet to issue an official detailed guideline accompanying the fees, including possible concessions for women, youths, or persons with disabilities, which have featured in previous election cycles.
As preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections, attention is expected to shift toward how other political parties will respond, and whether the cost of forms will influence the broader electoral landscape in Nigeria.
