A member of the People’s Democratic Party in the Ido local government area of Oyo state, Kabiru Popoola has explained why it is important to get rid of some set of party leaders who had been known of selling out the party in every election
in his local government.
Popoola, one of the campaign coordinators of Mogaji Joseph Tegbe, PDP Oyo South senatorial district candidate in the last general election said, it is high time the PDP in the state looked downward to the affairs
of the party in Ido and give a supporting hand to install sanity in the party in Ido local government.
He said, thou, the damage done by the acclaimed leaders during the last general election was very great but there is still very need to stop the uncontrollable political activities of the leaders before the expected local government election, adding that, the remaining integrity left for the party in Ido local government will completely be traded with opposition parties, if the accused leaders were not stopped.
Popoola why speaking with our correspondent, Akindele Alabi on Friday night on the telephone, on reasons why the Ido local government chapter of PDP is still unable to agree on a candidate out of the few aspirants, for the chairmanship election, as it is verified that all other local governments had agreed on consensus candidate and also the nomination form closing in few hours when called.
” It is true our leaders yet to agreed on one aspirant to be the candidate but already they had gone to the state party secretariat to get the chairmanship form which will be handed over to whoever emerged at tomorrow’s (today ) meeting.
” It is fair to have a delay in the selection process but the result is very important to us. Deal with a difficult situation in a very direct or confident way will assure us a good future for our party in Ido and will make us a credible, reliable, and disciplined candidate.
” PDP had made a serious mistake in the past in Ido local government, no checks and balances, most of the entitled leaders had turned to election merchants, they are the ones that will fight to produce an election candidate and are those that will sell the candidate to the opposition during the election.
“We have many of them in Ido. They did what they were known for during the last state and national assembly elections, they collected money from APC and Accord, and watch their party candidate lose out. So, now, there is an ongoing process to stop all these anti-party activities of the said leaders and the first step is to stop them from imposing a candidate for the forthcoming local government election. Thou, they had tried it but were vehemently opposed. Those leaders who always maintain their integrity stood out, all they want is fairness and justice.
” The information reaching us is that one of our aspirants has turned Otunba Seye Famojuro’s house into his Worshipping house, where he resumes every day. The said aspirant has no regard or respect for Otunba before now. In one voice, we are speaking in Ido on this, we don’t have a godfather but have God the Father.
When asked how the said leaders sold out the PDP in Ido local government during the last election, Popoola said, all evidence gathered pointed to them as betrayals.
“As you know, I am the Ido campaign coordinator for Mogaji Tegbe, PDP Oyo South senatorial candidate. And also a chairmanship aspirant in Ido, The senatorial election was for us to win in the last election, we were already looking forward to victory, but major damage was done in our local government by our caricature leaders, they sold our effort out completely.
” We know every single one of them that collected money from APC and Accord parties. The narration of how they collect money for the February 24th and March 18th elections is with us, we have the evidence of how money changed hands
” I am waiting for anyone who will engage me on this allegation I leveled against them. I will show them how they collected election money from opposition parties, thank God, it was during money scarcity, and they all got the money through mobile transfer. The amount they collected each, the receipt of the transfer made, and the remark on the receipt are available as evidence.
“As I said, evidence will speak, already Governor Seyi Makinde has been briefed and know how he will handle them.
” So as I said, the faithful leaders among them have agreed that it is not going to be business as usual for the betrayers, neither them nor their shameful candidate will have their way for this coming local government election”. Popoola stated.
