……..don’t be intimidated – Popoola
As 2023 electioneering campaign begins across the country, the Southwest leader of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan and the governorship candidate of the party, Engr. Josua Popoola on Thursday stormed Oyo federal constituency to prepare electorate ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
The event which was held at atiba Multipurpose Hall was attended by thousands of party loyalists from the constituency.
Speaking at the event, the governorship candidate of the party, Engr Josua Popoola urged members of the party to be steadfast and never entertain any intimidation from the ruling party.
Popoola said preparation is in top gear to ensure all the party members are protected and rewarded before, during and after the elections.
“We are here today to assure you that we are on the same page. Do not be intimidated. I can assure you that everyone will be protected and rewarded accordingly. We are not like those who will promised and reneged their promises. We are Omoluabi with track records. We won’t let you down,” Popoola said.
Earlier, the Southwest leader of the party, Alhaji Adebisi AbdleRasheed Olopoeyan charged the police to ensure criminals who are destroying billboards are arrested and prosecuted.
Olopoeyan who was apparently reacting to destruction of the oppositions billboards and posters of opposition parties in the state and intimidation of oppositions by the agents of the ruling party said he was unhappy with the do or die style of politics Governor Makinde and his supporters are practicing in recent time.
According to him, by destroying oppositions billboards, Makinde has accepted defeat when the former governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi did not destory his billboards in 2019.
He said almost 30 billboards belonging to NNPP which cost at least 350,000 each have been destroyed by men of underworld, forgetting that destruction of billboards cannot stop his defeat in 2023.
The political leader who advise governor Makinde to have tolerance with oppositions members further said the commissioner of police in the state must not allow the chairman of the Park Management System, Mukaila Lamidi popularly called, auxiliary to turn the state to war zone with the way he has been supervising destruction of billboards.
He said despite his petition published in the Nation Newspapers for March 15 2022 tagged; “President Buhari save my soul from governor Seyi Mankinde and Mukaila Lamidi popularly called auxiliary” he was still receiving security threat messages from his political oppositions.
Olopoeyan therfore raised an alarm that information reaching him is that axillary and his men are stockpiling armunations ahead of campaign and their target is to implicate anyone who wears opposition’s branded dresses with the aims to send them to jail.
“Those defacing bill boards can as well enter peoples house and be killing them. People are now afraid to go out for camping without watching their back. We have heard that they are trying to implicate our people. Police are now afraid of auxiliary. Makinde has empowered men of Amotekun to be powerful than the police, hence, police now afraid to arrest hoodlums.
“He move around and intimating our people with about 40 vehicles loaded with thugs and arms. If the state government failed to act, then the federal government should help us to address this abnormalities. The federal government can send undercover to Oyo state and monitor activities of this monster. Auxiliary is more powerful than the government of Oyo state. His convoy is more than that of the governor and even the president. We have never see this kind of politics in Oyo statement before. Posters and billboards of opposition parties have been defaced and teared to pieces.”
He said even if president Buhari erects his billboards in Oyo state today, Axillary and his men would not hesitate to destroy and deface it.
The elder stateman urged inspector General of Police, President Muhammadu Buhari and the General Public to intervene in the threat to his life by the governor of the state and the chairman of the Park Management System in the state, Lamidi Mukaila popularly called auxiliary.
