Oyo Lawmakers On A Working Visit To National Assembly, To Meet Lawan, Gbajabiamila Others

Oyo state House of Assembly committee on Inter Parliamentary Relations’ lawmakers led by Hon. Olamide Akinajo on Monday stormed National Assembly, Abuja on a week long “Working Peer Learning Visit’

The lawmakers had on Monday afternoon met with the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Arc. Amos Olatunde.

During their official welcoming and introduction, Clerk to the National Assembly, Arch. Olatunde urged lawmakers to legislate to protect the peasant people, discussed how states assembly can be financially autonomous.

Arch. Olatunde admonished Oyo legislators to sees been part of Central Parliamentary Association (CPA) as important and advised them to always participate more in parliament activities within the country and outside

NASS Clerk hinted that, the Oyo State delegation was the second Assembly the office of the CNA received this year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. “The last before the Oyo delegation was from Borno state”.

According to Olatunde: “For inter Parliamentary to be built, we need this type of visit, for development of Oyo State and Nigeria, we need this kind of visit, it is historical”.

He urged them to ensure that the legislature is well funded. “In the making of budget make sure that the legislature is well funded”.

“We are the less funded, but the most shouted about, is the legislature, there is need to provide enough fund to make us function properly”.

He added that the delegation should forget party affiliation and build Oyo State and Nigeria.

“Put the interest of the people at heart as you move around the National Assembly.

“It gladdened my heart when we got notification of your working and learning visit, it is a means of developing our democracy” Olatunde added.

Earlier, leader of the delegation, Honourable Akinajo Olamide said they are on a working visit to the National Assembly, and expressed confident that the visit will enhance working relation between Oyo State House of Assembly and the National Assembly.

“On behalf of the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, I appreciate the reception despite the short notice” he said.

Hon. Akinajo on behalf of Oyo state House of Assembly presented a talking drum to the CNA.

On Tueday, Oyo Lawmakers will continue their working visitation. They are to visit the speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Honorable Members and senators representing Oyo State at the National Assembly.

More so, they are expected to visit
National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, to meet with the Secretary Inter-Parliamentary and `Protocol, meet with the Inter- Parliamentary Relations Committee and with the Inter-Parliamentary Affairs Committee ( Senate) before going back to Oyo state on the 4th of Dec.
