Oyo PDP Woos Olopoeyan
The Peoples Democratic Party, Oyo state chapter on Thursday made advance talk to bring back former party chieftain, Alhaji Adebisi Aremu Olopoeyan to its fold.
Olopoeyan, who left the party to join the New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP in early 2022, during the build-up of the last general elections, resigned from NNPP with a statement that his next political party would be announced soon.
However, the state secretary of PDP, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke during a courtesy visit of the state Working Committee and leaders of the party to Olopoeyan residents in Ibadan said, that PDP under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde is interested in bringing back Olopoeyan and all those who had left the party with him to NNPP back to its fold.
Also, according to Nigeria’s former minister, Elder Wole Oyelese, who led the Oyo state PDP delegation to Olopoeyan’s residence in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, said all that Governor Seyi Makinde wants is to return Adebisi Olopoeyan to his political family in PDP.
” We came here today with permission of Governor Seyi Makinde to talk to Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan to consider rejoining the party he left.
” The NNPP dissolving into PDP will make our party stronger in Oyo state. It is the wish of Governor Seyi Makinde and we PDP state leaders to have Olopoeyan and his loyalists back to PDP, and that is the only reason why we are all here.
” In his message, former PDP state chairman, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha acknowledged Olopoeyan’s contributions to PDP’s victory in 2019, saying, his impact towards the struggle to seize power from late Abiola Ajimobi can’t be overemphasized, thereby urging Olopoeyan to yield to ” Come Back Home ” calls of governor Seyi Makinde and all PDP leaders in the state.
In his response to the request, Olopoeyan thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for his love and generosity to him, and Oyo NNPP described Makinde as an accommodating leader who is always ready to give it all for reconciliation when there is an issue.
Olopoeyan thereafter appreciated Oyo PDP for their love for him and still found him valued despite leaving their party two years ago. He mentioned some PDP leaders, appointees, and members who still maintained a personal and cordial relationship with him despite the misunderstanding between him and Governor Seyi Makinde, which made him leave the PDP in 2022.
The former PDP chieftain told the Oyo PDP delegation that he and his members of NNPP would soon make a decision that would go in line with the interest of Governor Seyi Makinde and his party.
