Thirty-one inmates of the Agodi Correctional Center, including two minors have been freed by the State Chief Judge, Justice Iyabo Yerima while another has had his punishment converted to three weeks’ community service.
Justice Yerima who was on a visit to the correctional facility along with the top echelon of the State judiciary, reviewed the charges against some of the inmates.
She revealed that out of the 32 inmates recommended for release, seven were beneficiaries on health grounds while two minors were released considering their age and non-criminal nature of their offences.
Justice Yerima explained that the exercise, aimed at decongesting the correctional facilities will be held every three months.
Advising the beneficiaries to turn a new leaf, Justice Ladiran Akintola who was also on the Chief Judge’s entourage charged them to be useful to society than being part of society’s challenges.
