Oyo APC Peace Advocates to National Leaders: Let’s Fix Internal Crises Before 2027
Oyo APC Peace Advocates have made a clarion call for the rescue of the APC in Oyo state.

This is contained in a press statement made available to newsmen by the Group’s Leadership.
The By-election to fill the vacuum created by the untimely demise of Hon. Olayide Akinremi aka (Jagaban) of the APC was held yesterday, Saturday, 16th of August, 2025.
According to the Peace Advocates, sadly and unfortunately, APC suffered a crushing defeat to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
They noted that not only did the APC lost in all the 12 Wards of Ibadan North Federal Constituency, the margin of defeat is also shamefully wide.

From the official results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the PDP Candidate scored a total number of 18, 404 votes to defeat the APC Candidate who scored a total number of 8, 312 votes.
Should we have lost to PDP in that election, the answer is in the negative.

However, did we deserve to win?
The answer is a resounding yes!
Why do we say so?
As prominent Leaders and critical Stakeholders within Oyo APC, we have long discovered that Oyo APC lost the 2023 gubernatorial and House of Assembly election as a result of internal bickering amongst stakeholders who felt aggrieved by the way the 2023 Congresses and Part Primaries were handled.
We have not only identified these problems but we have also taken steps by inviting other people with like minds to join with us to form the Group known as the Oyo APC Peace Advocates.
Our objectives are to ensure that we preach the messages of peace, harmony and cohesion within the Party.
As a Group, we have continued to meet with critical Stakeholders, Leaders and office holders within the Party with a view to ensuring that all of us are united for the challenges ahead.
Not only that, we have met with the Oyo state Executive Committee of the APC, we have also met with the expanded Executive Committee of APC in Oyo state and we have equally met with Elders, Leaders and critical Stakeholders in Ibadan Outer City, Oyo, Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa zones.
We have taken our advocacy beyond Oyo state just to ensure that we get things right.
In all these, we have been committing our personal resources, time and energy, just to ensure that we get things right before 2027.
From our interactions, it is evident that Party members are prepared to sacrifice their time, energy and resources for the success of the APC, provided the processes that produced Party officers and Candidates for elective positions are transparent, free, fair and credible.
When the INEC announced August 16, 2025 as the date for the By-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, we, as a Group called on all concerned to ensure the processes that will produce the Candidate of the APC was credible, free, fair and transparent.
Sadly, our calls went unheeded.
The processes that produced the Candidate of the APC for the By-election in Ibadan North was rancorous and devoid of transparency.
There were also no timely and genuine efforts to appeal to the Candidates who purchased nomination forms for the Primary but who felt aggrieved by the process.
With regards to the above, we, as a Group did all humanly possible to make the contesting sides close ranks but our efforts were impeded by certain factors.
In short, Oyo APC went to the August 16 By-election as a divided House once again, just like 2023.
We can not overrule the fact that external influences contributed in no small measure to the problems bedeviling the APC in Oyo state since 2023.
The platform of Oyo APC is very strong and formidable if it is united.
We have decided to continue with our advocacy for true reconciliations and unity but we can not achieve the desired results if we continue to be confronted by negative external influences.
The general belief that Oyo APC was victorious in the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly election as a result of the ” support” of Governor Seyi Makinde is erroneous.
Just last year, Oyo APC defeated the PDP in a re-run election at Saki and we were able to do this because there were no issues amongst stakeholders regarding the Candidate of the APC for that election.
We are by this press statement calling on the National headquarters of our party, the APC, Elders, Leaders and critical Stakeholders both within Oyo APC and Abuja to support Oyo APC Peace Advocates in our efforts to ensure that peace, unity and harmony is forged within the Party.
The APC in Oyo state is a very strong platform which will deliver any day, provided that processes that throw up Candidates for elective positions are transparent, free and fair.
We call on the National headquarters of our great Party to allow us fix our issues internally and we have to start from the December 2025 Congresses of the Party.
It will be unhealthy and counter-productive to continue to build the Party around individuals who are interested in contesting for elective positions in a state like Oyo where the APC is in the opposition.
Let us give the Party back to the people.
If the people have their say on the Candidates who will fly the Party’s flags, they will certainly accept to sacrifice their time, energy and resources to ensure the Candidates are victorious during elections.
It is our only path to victory in future elections.
