Gov. Makinde Reacts to Indiscriminate Refuse Dumping Threatening Public Health in Ibadan Metropolis

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has identified indiscriminate dumping of refuse across the Ibadan metropolis as one of the major challenges confronting his administration over the years.
The governor made this known on Saturday while speaking at the wedding ceremony of Moyosore Ayorinde, daughter of the Chairman of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, and Oladipo Michael Sadipe, son of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tolu Sadipe. The ceremony was held at the Cathedral of St. James the Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde acknowledged that indiscriminate refuse dumping has become a growing environmental and public health concern in Ibadan, with heaps of waste littering major roads, drainage channels, and open spaces, despite the existence of sanitation regulations.
According to him, the challenge has persisted since the inception of his administration, but he assured residents that concrete measures are being put in place to permanently address the menace.
“Passing through Ibadan, you will see a lot of waste all over the place. It is a problem we have been dealing with. It has taken me six years, and it is still not completely solved, but I promise you that we will fix the problem,” the governor said.

He further reassured the people of Oyo State that indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the Ibadan metropolis would soon become a thing of the past, as his administration remains committed to protecting public health and ensuring a cleaner environment.
