Former Accord Aspirant, Adedapo Resigns Membership, Cites Lack of Internal Democracy

A former aspirant for the Oyo State House of Assembly under the Accord Party, Mr. Adedapo Olamiposi Ojo, has resigned his membership of the party, citing what he described as a lack of internal democracy and cohesion within its ranks.
Ojo, who contested the party’s primary for the Ibadan North East Local Government Area Constituency II seat, conveyed his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman and Secretary of the Accord Party, Oyo State chapter.

In the letter, he said his decision followed what he described as the “stark reality” about the future of the party, expressing disappointment over the conduct of the party’s recent primary election.
According to him, the primary election was marred by crises that resulted in the emergence of parallel aspirants for the same elective position, a development he said reflected the party’s failure to uphold democratic principles.
“It is very unfortunate that our party lacks internal democracy and members’ cohesion if one goes by the way the primaries were conducted, which were characterised by so many crises leading to the production of two parallel aspirants into one office,” he stated.
The former aspirant also employed a Yoruba proverb to illustrate his departure, noting that while political associations may end, relationships should remain cordial.

Despite his grievances, Ojo appreciated the leadership, members, supporters and followers of the Accord Party for the opportunity to serve and participate in the party’s activities.
“I want to use this medium to thank the leaders of our party, party members, supporters and followers for the opportunity given to me while we were together to prove myself, and I wish you all the best of luck,” he said.
His resignation adds to the growing list of political realignments in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties continue to reposition following the conclusion of their primary elections.
