Former state assembly lawmaker, Hon. Qozeem Olayanju has commended the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for approval of the appointment of a new Onigbeti of Igbetiland.
Makinde during the week approved the appointment of Prince Bashir Olalekan Abioye as the new king of Igbeti Land. Appointed Chief Fatai Surajudeen Olapoju as the new Elemosho and Chief Bashir Bello as the new Olonko of Igbeti Land respectively.
Abioye will succeed Oba Emmanuel Oyekan Oyebisi, Afasegbejo III, who died on Nov. 7th, 2021, at the age of 77 after spending 17 years on the throne of his fathers.
Commenting Governor Makinde, Olayanju who represented the Orelope/Olorunsogo state constituency during the 9th Assembly now Olorunsogo local government PDP chairmanship candidate for the coming state council election said, the approval of Prince Abioye as the new Onigbeti and others was in the exercise of the power conferred on Makinde by Sub-Sections 1 and 2 of the Chiefs’ Law, Cap. 28, Volume I, Laws of the Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
His words: “On behalf of my family and esteemed supporters, I congratulate
Prince Bashir Olalekan Abioye on his final selection and approval to occupy
throne of his forefathers.
I also congratulate Chief Fatai Surajudeen Olapoju who is now appointed as the new Elemosho and Chief Bashir Bello as the new Olonko of Igbeti land.
I urged the new Prince Adeoye and the new Elemoso and Olonko to make efforts to move Igbeti land in the forward direction.
Most importantly, I acknowledged and commenced the Oyo state government and governor, Seyi Makinde’s resilience and support for tradition. It is I’m record that, governor Makinde and his administration will be remembered for good when it comes to propagation for strong traditional institutions’, Olayanju stated.
