Court Nullifies PDP National Convention Held in Ibadan

The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in the state capital on November 15, 2025.
In its ruling, the court barred Alhaji Aminu Turaki and other individuals who emerged from the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party, declaring that the exercise did not meet the requirements of due process.

The court further held that the Caretaker Committee led by Ambassador Iliya Damagum Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP. The committee, the court ruled, will continue in that capacity pending the conduct of a properly convened and valid National Convention in accordance with the PDP constitution and relevant laws.
Reacting to the judgment, members and supporters of a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike described the ruling as a vindication of their long-held position that the Ibadan convention was flawed and violated the party’s constitutional provisions. They had consistently argued that due process was not followed before the convention was held.
The court’s decision is expected to have significant implications for the internal leadership structure of the PDP, as the party now faces renewed pressure to organise a lawful national convention to resolve its leadership disputes and reposition itself ahead of future political engagements.
