Akintayo Calls for Support for Child Nutrition Programme in Ibadan North East

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, popularly known as “O MU YES,” has urged nursing mothers to cooperate fully with health workers in order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of their children.
Hon. Akintayo made the call on Thursday, March 5, 2026, while addressing nursing mothers during a community awareness programme on the use of Small Quantity Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements (SQ-LNS) among caregivers of children aged 6–11 months. The programme was held at the Ibadan North East Local Government Secretariat and conducted by the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board.

In his address, the chairman emphasized the importance of proper nutrition for infants and the need for mothers to work closely with health professionals to ensure their children grow healthy and strong.
He noted that the SQ-LNS initiative is designed to improve the nutritional status of children, particularly during their early stages of development. According to him, cooperation between caregivers and health workers will go a long way in preventing malnutrition and other health challenges among infants.
Akintayo stressed that good health remains the foundation of a productive society, urging mothers to take advantage of the programme and carefully follow the guidance provided by health personnel.
“Health is wealth. When our children are healthy, our families and communities will also thrive. I encourage all nursing mothers to cooperate with health workers and adhere to their instructions for the benefit of their children,” he said.

The awareness programme was aimed at educating caregivers on the importance and proper use of SQ-LNS for children between six and eleven months, as part of efforts by the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board to improve child nutrition and reduce cases of malnutrition across communities.
Health workers at the event also sensitized participants on infant feeding practices and demonstrated how the nutrient supplement can be effectively used to support the growth and development of young children.
The programme attracted several nursing mothers and caregivers from different communities within Ibadan North East Local Government who participated actively in the sensitization session.
