Court Frees Oyo Chief Of Staff, Ilaka, Of Murder Charge

Justice K.B Olawoyin of Oyo State High Court, on Monday in Oyo Town has discharged and acquitted Ladilu Of Oyo, Chief Bisi Lukman Ilaka the Chief of State of Staff to the state governor of a murder charge against him in a case filled by Oyo State government in August last year.

Chief Bisi Ilaka alongside with his security aide, Temitayo Alamiyo, were arrested after a fracas that broke out at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, during Orayan festival on September 8, 2018, which caused the death of three people.

Ilaka’s counsel, Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, had earlier filed a no-case suit HOY/12C/22018 before Justice K.B Olawoyin of Oyo Division of the High Court.

In his no-case argument, the lead counsel, Abiodun Abdu-Raheem argued that, the case brought by Oyo state government against Chief Bisi Ilaka has no merit, continued that, the testimonies and evidence tendered by he five prosecution witnesses called during the trial did not establish a prima facie case against Ilaka, thereby the judge should freed his client and returned all his personal belongings collected from him.

After months of hearing, in his Judgement, Justice Olawoyin agreed with the no-case submission of Ilaka’s counsel, Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, freed Ilaka of all the eight-count charge brought against.

In additional answers to Abdul – Raheem prayers, Justice Olawoyin also ordered the police to return to Ilaka, his licensed pump-action firearm and other materials taken from him before the commencement of the trial.
