Ibadan Obas, Chiefs, Mogajis, Baales, Traditionalists Kick Against Agitating For O’odua Nation
Following Saturday’s attack on the Oyo State governor’s office and Oyo State House of Assembly complex, Agodi Ibadan, by suspected O’odua Nation Agitators, Ibadan Oba’s, Chiefs, Baales, Mogajis, security agencies, and religious bodies in Ibadanland have spoke in unionism against agitation in Ibadanland and it’s environs.
They said even though no Ibadan indigene was among agitators arrested by security agencies, there is a need to ensure that people in the town don’t conspire with outsiders which can give room for any agitation to cause chaos in the ancient city.
Aside from this, the traditional oath conducted by the Araba Awo of Ibadanland and Olu Isese of Ibadanland, Araba Awo Odegbola was taken by everybody at the meeting including the local security volunteers, which was the first of its kind in the modern history of the security structure of the city.
According to the oath, on no account must anybody be in a position to create or support any agitation, be in contact or do meetings, or join any form of agitation.
Those at the special security gathering convened by the Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI) in collaboration with the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) insisted that Ibadan vehemently against any form of agitation that can create a crisis in the town, adding that going by the position of Ibadanland, if Ibadan is subjected to any form of crisis, then Nigeria is not safe.
Those at the meeting include the representative of the Commissioner of Police in the state, CSP Kolawole Umar, representative of the GOC, Lt. OR Bello who commended the effort of ICPI and CCII in ensuring peace in Ibadanland and its environs.
The security Chiefs said with the security meeting, Ibadanland is ready for a peaceful environment, assuring that those behind the agitation shall be dealt with accordingly.
Others at the event are CCII President-General, Barr. Chief Niyi Ajewole with CCII excos, representatives of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Abiola Iyiola, Oniroko of Iroko land, Alakinyele of Akinyele, Oniladuntan of Laduntan, Ibadan Mogajis led by Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, all Baales led by Baale F. Ige.
Babaloja of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekini Abass, Iyaloja of Oyo State, Alhaja Saratu Konibaje, all Iyalojas in 11 local government of Ibadanland, Chief Imam of Ibadanland and Grand Imam of Oyo State, Sheik Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere, representative of Engr. Dotun Sanusi, Oluode of Ibadanland, Chief Kehinde Ege, and representative of Oyo State CAN chairman, Bishop Adegbolagun George among others.
According to the gathering, if Ibadanland has a problem, Oyo State is gone, Yorubaland is in trouble, if Yorubaland has a problem, Nigeria is gone, if Nigeria has a problem, west Africa is gone, if West Africa has a problem, Africa is gone, if Africa has a problem, then the whole world is in a big mess.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, the Coordinator, of Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative, Mogaji, Nurudeen Akinade stated that Ibadan will not support any form of agitation that can disrupt the peace of the state and Nigeria at large.
He described the invasion of the Oyo Secretariat as unfortunate, adding that Ibadanland has decided to be more security conscious and will not support any form of evil.
